GAME RECAP

Shawn Kemp scored 18 points and rookie Brevin Knight hit a crucial jumper in the final seconds as the Cleveland Cavaliers held off the Indiana Pacers, 80-77, winning their home opener for the first time in six years.

Cleveland led 73-64 with 8:19 to play when the Pacers embarked on an 11-3 run. Reggie Miller, who scored 21 points, hit four free throws and Fred Hoiberg capped the spurt with a jumper that pulled the Pacers within 76-75 with 54 seconds remaining.

Kemp answered with a pair of free throws but Indiana's Antonio Davis made a tip-in with 27 seconds left to cut the deficit back to one point. The Cavaliers wound down the shot clock on their next possession and Knight drained a 12-foot jumper with 4.9 seconds to go.

Chris Mullin's ensuing inbounds pass was deflected in the backcourt and Miller was forced to heave a long desperation shot that was well off the mark as Indiana (1-2) lost for the second time in the waning seconds.

Cleveland had dropped its first two games, both on the road.
