GAME RECAP

Wesley Person connected on three of his five three-pointers in the fourth quarter and Shawn Kemp had 28 points and 15 rebounds, leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 96-92 victory over the Boston Celtics, who suffered their fourth straight loss.

Person, who scored 12 of his 26 points in the final quarter, hit back-to-back three-pointers to finish off a 9-0 run. His second gave the Cavs -- who hit only 5-of-17 three-pointers during the game -- an 89-81 lead with 1:31 remaining. Person accounted for nine of Cleveland's last 13 points with two three-pointers and three free throws.

"I saw an opportunity when we were up by two and they still had the momentum," said Person. "It (the first three-pointer) was a good shot because it went in, but it was not really a high percentage shot. I decided to take a three-pointer, go for the home run, and I got it. I thought Shawn really carried us for three quarters and I was just looking to give us a little spark to carry us on the road."

Boston had taken an 81-80 lead with 4:22 left following a rebound and lay-in by Travis Knight.

Antoine Walker had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Celtics, who have not won since rallying past the Chicago Bulls in their season opener.

A jumper by Dana Barros cut the Boston deficit to 89-83 with 1:20 left, but Person sank a pair of free throws on Cleveland's next trip down the floor to put the Cavs back up by eight.

The Celtics managed to pull within four points twice in the final minute -- on a Barros layup with 14.8 seconds remaining and a Ron Mercer three-pointer with 3.8 seconds to go, but that was the closest they came.

"Tonight was about the 12 little things we did not do fundamentally," said Boston coach Rick Pitino. "Making free throws is a big part of it; picking up your dribble if you're a guard; taking bad shots down the stretch rather than creating good ball movement; defensive lapses and fouling when referees are constantly telling you that hand-checking is not allowed."

Cleveland rookie Brevin Knight made his first start of the season, replacing Bob Sura, who is hobbled by a sprained ankle. In 33 minutes, Knight had nine points and 11 assists. Sura dressed but did not play.

Although the Cavs' performance from three-point range was less than impressive, Boston was even worse, going 2-of-17 from behind the arc. Despite that abysmal performance from long range, the Celtics narrowly outshot Cleveland from the field.

The Cavaliers went to the free throw line 15 times more than the Celtics, hitting 35-of-46 attempts. Boston was 22-of-31 from the stripe. Kemp was 12-of-13 from the line to lead Cleveland.

"Wesley's two (three-pointers) were obviously enormous down the stretch," said Cavs coach Mike Fratello. "We got some nice contributions from some other people. Shawn carried us for three quarters and then Wesley found open spots on the court. That was really big. It was just a matter of us taking advantage of some opportinties during that (9-0) run."
