GAME RECAP

Tim Hardaway had 25 points and 12 assists and the Miami Heat used a 13-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to take control and post a 114-106 victory over the Washington Wizards.

Jamal Mashburn added 22 points for the Heat, who bounced back from Friday's loss at New Jersey. Miami, which defeated Washington for the second time this season, has won 11 of the last 13 meetings.

Chris Webber scored 34 points and Juwan Howard added 26 for the Wizards (2-4), who have dropped consecutive games for the second time this season. Rod Strickland had 14 points and added 19 assists, one below his career high.

Hardaway buried a three-pointer to end the third quarter and tie the game, 85-85. Terry Mills opened the fourth with another three-pointer to put Miami ahead for good and Hardaway followed with a bucket for a 90-85 advantage with 11:10 remaining.

After a basket by P.J. Brown, little-used Todd Day converted a three-point play to cap the burst and give the Heat a 95-85 lead with 9:45 to play.

"We had great fire for 18 minutes," Miami coach Pat Riley said. "The bench guys came in and we had a real sustained intensity. In the third quarter we had to struggle a little bit then we got it going."

A pair of free throws by Howard got Washington within 107-103 with 1:49 left, but Isaac Austin made a pair of free throws and Mashburn converted a three-point play before Hardaway hit two free throws to push the lead back to 114-104.

"It was a good game," Strickland said. "It's tough to win on their homecourt. They made a couple of key runs. That 15-0 (actually 13-0), I'd say that was the key."

Webber had 19 points and Howard 16 in the first half as the Wizards opened a 60-54 halftime lead. But the Heat rallied behind Mills, who scored 15 straight Miami points spanning the second and third quarters.

"I was lost offensively and defensively and missing training camp didn't help," Mills said. "But I stayed after practice today and it showed. This was my best shooting of the season. I felt it, coach kept calling my number and I responded. This is what I was brought here for and I want it to continue."

Mills netted 20 points off the bench and Brown finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Heat, who shot 53 percent (40-for-75) from the field. Austin added 12 points.

Tracy Murray had 11 points and Calbert Cheaney 10 for the Wizards, who shot 52 percent (43-of-82).
