GAME RECAP

Blue Edwards scored seven of his 16 points in overtime and Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Vancouver Grizzlies pulled out a 104-96 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

After Malik Sealy opened the overtime with three straight free throws to give Detroit a 91-88 edge, the Grizzlies scored the next 13 points to seal the win, their first in five all-time meetings with the Pistons.

Edwards and Abdur-Rahim converted back-to-back three-point plays to give Vancouver the lead for good with 3:44 remaining. Edwards drained a three-pointer and, after Bryant Reeves had a tip-in, Abdur-Rahim sank two free throws to cap the run for a 101-91 lead with 1:27 to go.

"We were just happy to be able to pull this one out," Abdur-Rahim said. "It will boost the morale around here so everyone isn't walking around with their head down."

Reeves contributed 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who outrebounded Detroit, 53-37, and snapped a three-game losing streak. The Pistons did not have one rebound in overtime while Vancouver grabbed six.

"We executed every time we had to in the overtime period," Reeves said. "We really came out to get every loose ball and every rebound and we did that."

"I thought we had to do two things tonight to win this game. We had to establish ourselves on the boards and we had to get to the free throw line, and we did that perfectly," Grizzlies coach Brian Hill said.

The Pistons' Grant Hill finished with 14 points, 14 assists and 10 boards for the first triple-double in the NBA this season and the 25th of his career. But he made just 6-of-21 shots and missed the potential game-winning 15-foot jumper as time expired in regulation.

"We don't have a defensive presence. Regardless, even when our shots don't fall on offense, we just have to play better defense and we haven't done that," Grant Hill explained. "We're not as tough physically and mentally as we were last year."

Abdur-Rahim, Edwards and George Lynch all played key roles in shutting down Hill's scoring output.

"I think it was an effort from everybody -- myself, George and Blue. Those two guys did an outstanding job on him," Abdur-Rahim said. "We were very cautious of him and we ran at him to make sure he couldn't get isolated. He's so hard to guard, we needed everybody contributing."

Lindsey Hunter scored 23 points for Detroit, which suffered its fourth straight loss.

The Pistons, who were just 3-of-16 from three-point range, tied the game, 86-86, with 48 seconds to play on two free throws by Aaron McKie. After Abdur-Rahim missed a short jumper, Brian Williams hit a five-footer to put Detroit on top.

But Lee Mayberry sank two foul shots -- his only points of the game -- with 10.1 seconds left to tie the score.

Hill's missed jumper sent the game to overtime, where three Pistons fouled out -- Williams, who had 14 points and eight boards, Sealy, who finished with 20 points, and Theo Ratliff.

Lynch chipped in 16 points and Otis Thorpe added 13 for Vancouver, which shot 51 percent (38-of-75) from the field. Lynch and Thorpe pulled down eight boards apiece.

The game was tight throughout, except for a brief period in the opening quarter. Vancouver opened the game with a 17-4 run, but Detroit closed the first quarter with a 17-6 spurt.

"It's hard to say what our problems are," Hunter said. "We have to work harder. ... We just have to find an answer."

Veteran Pistons guard Joe Dumars left the game in the second quarter with a strained left shoulder.
