GAME RECAP

A.C. Green's NBA-record 907th straight game was spoiled by the previously winless Golden State Warriors, who rode Latrell Sprewell's 28 points and a massive rebounding advantage to a 101-97 overtime victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

Green, a 12-year veteran, was honored at halftime for breaking Randy Smith's NBA record for consecutive games played. Green, who finished with seven points and seven rebounds, has not missed a contest since November 18th, 1986, when he was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.

"Despite the outcome of the game, it was a great night," Green said. "I feel very honored by everyone. With my family being here it was sort of like playing in your backyard. I haven't been nervous all day. I knew it was going to happen, I anticipated it."

Golden State (1-9) blew a 16-point third-quarter lead, but werer saved by Sprewell, who scored the first six points of the extra session. The victory left the 0-9 Denver Nuggets as the NBA's only winless team.

Joe Smith had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Donyell Marshall collected 15 and 16 for the Warriors, who outrebounded the Mavericks, 66-42.

"You don't want to go down in the books as the team with the longest losing streak to start out the season," said Golden State guard Bimbo Coles, who scored 11 points. "It takes a lot of pressure off everyone in this room and it's a lot better feeling tonight."

Dennis Scott scored a season-high 33 points and Shawn Bradley added 21 and 17 rebounds for the Mavericks, who suffered their eighth straight loss. Scott was 9-of-14 from three-point range, falling two three-pointers short of his own NBA record. He hit his 1,000th career three-pointer late in the second quarter.

Scott forced overtime when he buried a 28-footer with 5.8 seconds left, but Sprewell took over from there. He hit a pair of layups plus two free throws to give the Warriors a 97-91 lead with 2:55 remaining in overtime. Dallas closed within three points after Scott sank a pair from the line and Michael Finley hit a free throw, but Smith hit a jumper from the corner to push the lead back to 99-94 with 52 seconds to play.

Bradley converted a three-point play with 40 seconds to go, bringing Dallas within two. The Mavericks came up with a steal and went for the win, but fourth-quarter hero Hubert Davis missed a three-pointer from the wing with 14 seconds left. Marshall made two free throws to close the scoring.

Marshall's dunk gave Golden State a 75-59 advantage with 3:32 remaining in the third quarter. Dallas closed within 11 points entering the fourth and began the period with a 13-3 burst. Davis sparked the burst with two three-pointers and scored eight of his 10 fourth-quarter points in the run. Bradley's jumper capped it and brought Dallas within 80-78 with 7:29 left in regulation.

Golden State raced to a 25-18 lead after one quarter. The Warriors extended the lead to double digits midway through the second period but Dallas trailed by only six at halftime because of Scott. He was 6-of-9 from behind the arc and scored 18 points in the period.

Erick Dampier collected 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors, who shot 42 percent (38-of-91) from the field. Muggsy Bogues added 10 points.

"The game is a lot easier when you make shots," Golden State coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "We defended and rebounded well. We dominated the boards and we got some big stops when it mattered. We also got a couple of huge rebounds when it mattered."

Davis finished with 18 points for Dallas, which shot 38.5 percent (37-of-96). Finley contributed seven points, seven rebounds and a season-high 10 assists.
