GAME RECAP

Wesley Person scored 18 points, including three free throws in the final 13 seconds, as the Cleveland Cavaliers took advantage of poor shooting by Allen Iverson to defeat the Philadelphia 76ers, 95-89.

Shawn Kemp had 18 points and Vitaly Potapenko added 12 and 11 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who have won 12 straight games in Philadelphia since March 31st, 1991. Cleveland has won 24 of the last 25 meetings between the teams.

"I wasn't the prettiest game but on the road we have had some luck go our way," Kemp said. "We have to come out and get a better start. Once I got back on track we were able to get it going in the second half."

"Once we got down our bench guys came in and they were able to work the lead down," said Cavaliers coach Mike Fratello. "We knew if we played better in the second half, and took care of the basketball better, we would be OK."

Iverson, who had just 13 points, missed a pair of layups in the final 28 seconds as Philadelphia lost for the sixth time in seven home games. The second-year point guard was just 4-of-18 from the field as the 76ers made just 30-of-73 shots overall.

Backcourt mate Jerry Stackhouse was 4-of-13 and committed five turnovers as Philadelphia turned the ball over 24 times. Jim Jackson, who had 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, had seven turnovers.

"If you play good solid basketball it doesn't come down to that at the end," 76ers coach Larry Brown said. "Then you don't have to worry about being perfect. Our problem is so many of our turnovers are unforced. That is what happens when you are unaccustomed to winning and you can't find way to win."

The Cavaliers may have lost starting point guard Brevin Knight to a shoulder injury. The rookie collided with Iverson 98 seconds into the second quarter and was forced to go to the hospital for X-rays on what was preliminarily diagnosed as a severely sprained right shoulder.

Philadelphia drew within 88-87 with 68 seconds left and had a chance to take the lead but Iverson missed a layup with 27.4 seconds to go. Kemp was fouled with 19.7 seconds to play and made a pair from the line.

Iverson missed another layup, this one with 16.4 seconds left, and Person capitalized by making 1-of-2 free throws. He added a pair with less than 10 seconds left to push the Cavaliers' lead to 93-87. Jackson hit a driving layup but Derek Anderson sank two from the line with 2.3 seconds to go to seal the win.

Person, who has 71 points in his last three games, added nine rebounds, six assists and six steals for the Cavaliers, who have won four of their last five on the road.

"It is a great game for us, we needed to get over the .500 mark," said Person. "We did a lot of good things down the stretch. We are showing signs of improvement, anytime you can go to your bench and use the kind of depth we have, that is how you get victories."

Cleveland, which was just 19-of-29 from the free throw line and committed 26 turnovers, held a 45-37 advantage on the boards.
