GAME RECAP

Terrell Brandon scored 13 of his 24 points during the decisive third quarter and four other starters reached double figures, leading the Milwaukee Bucks to a 102-92 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

Brandon, who also had 11 assists had four steals, scored six points during a 10-0 run, giving the Bucks a 71-61 lead with 1:44 left in the quarter. The Hornets got no closer than 96-89 with just 53 seconds remaining.

Ray Allen contributed 22 points, Tyrone Hill 18 and 11 rebounds and Ervin Johnson and Glenn Robinson 16 points apiece among Milwaukee's starters.

"Overall it was a good win, good to see resiliency again," said Milwaukee coach Chris Ford. "Now we have to put a number of wins together. Our defense was excellent and so was our shooting. Our starters really came through for us and it was tough to take them off the court."

Glen Rice scored 27 points to lead Charlotte, which has lost three of its last four games. Anthony Mason added 15 points and David Wesley 10 assists. The Hornets lost for only the second time in 12 games with Rice as the team's leading scorer. It was also the first time in 11 games this season that Charlotte lost when Rice scored 20 or more points.

"We had 13 turnovers and we got killed on the boards. We fell behind and played catch-up the whole game," said Charlotte coach Dave Cowens. "They made their shots while we couldn't sustain anything offensively. They're supposed to be a terrible rebounding team; we were terrible in the middle tonight."

The Bucks were hot from the field, connecting on 58 percent (43-for-74) of their field goal attempts. The Hornets hit 47 percent (37-for-78) of their shots, but just 27 percent (3-for-11) from three-point range.

Led by Hill and Johnson (8), the Bucks also won the battle off the boards, 44-30.

"It was a lack of everything tonight. A lack of defense and a lack of rebounding," said Mason. "We live by the 'J' and simply didn't hit our shots. The Bucks this year are a much better team. They're passing and finishing and playing much better defensively."

Milwaukee moved out to a 10-point lead, 18-8, midway through the first quarter following a fast-break layup by Johnson.

The Hornets used an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 31-30 on J.R. Reid's jumper with 8:54 left in the second quarter. Neither team was able to pull away for the rest of the half and the score was knotted at 45-45 after two quarters.

Mason's free throw with 4:06 left in the third quarter tied it at 61-61, but Allen's dunk touched off a 10-0 run that put the Bucks ahead to stay.

"We wanted to come out and play our game and we played aggressively at both ends of the floor," said Hill. "In the second half versus Phoenix (a 90-86 loss on Tuesday) we didn't come to play. Tonight was a complete team effort."
