GAME RECAP

Rony Seikaly scored 24 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Orlando Magic won for the fourth time in five games, 95-86 over the Philadelphia 76ers.

Horace Grant added 12 points and Brian Evans had 11 off the bench for Orlando, which never trailed. The Magic played without All-Star Penny Hardaway, who was placed on the injured list before the game, and lost swingman Nick Anderson in the second quarter with a broken bone in his left hand.

"Hopefully, we can cut down on this injury situation," said Magic coach Chuck Daly. "I don't quite know what to do. We're getting to the point where it's getting pretty thin, so we're going to have to go to the drawing board personnel-wise and see what we can come up with."

Allen Iverson scored 21 points and Jimmy Jackson had 18 and eight rebounds for Philadelphia, which has lost four of its last five games and four straight on the road. The 76ers have dropped both meetings with the Magic this season and fell to 3-15 all-time in Orlando.

Gerald Wilkins, starting in place of Hardaway at shooting guard, scored all 10 of his points in the first quarter and Seikaly had eight as Orlando led 26-19 after 12 minutes. Seikaly added six more in the second period to help the Magic to a 51-40 halftime advantage.

"During warm-ups, their (Philadelphia) commentator told me that I was too old to start," said Wilkins. "So I said, 'We'll see.' Really, it was just our guys getting me the ball in the right spot. The more minutes that I play, the more I get into the flow."

The margin was at 59-48 with 8:15 to go in the third quarter before Clarence Weatherspoon and Iverson each netted four points in a 13-4 run that cut the gap to 63-61 with 1:39 to go. Iverson finished with eight in the period as the Magic took a 67-63 lead into the final quarter.

But the Sixers would not get any closer than four points the rest of the way thanks to guards Derek Harper and Darrell Armstrong, who combined for 14 of their 20 points in the period. Grant's jumper with 1:33 remaining gave Orlando its biggest lead of the quarter at 89-77.

"We did a lot of good things, I was proud," said Sixers coach Larry Brown. "We started out so poorly and we fought our way back. We got down early in the second half to 11. I am proud of those things, we just got to sustain it."

The Magic converted 17-of-18 free throw attempts and was 4-of-9 from three-point range. They forced 18 turnovers and held Philly to 40 percent shooting (34-of-84) from the floor.

"I think we have lapses," said 76ers guard Jerry Stackhouse. "Tonight we did a good job of getting to our sets. Our main thing was our turnovers. That is what did us in combined with our transition defense."
