GAME RECAP

Darrick Martin scored 18 points and Lorenzen Wright pulled down 11 rebounds as the Los Angeles Clippers snapped a seven-game road losing streak with a 99-92 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

Lamond Murray added 17 points and nine rebounds and Rodney Rogers 14 and 10 for the Clippers, who won for only the second time in 10 road games and recorded their third straight win over the Mavericks.

Khalid Reeves scored a season-high 28 points while hitting all nine of his free throw attempts and Michael Finley added 17 to lead the Mavericks, who have lost two of three games since Don Nelson replaced Jim Cleamons as coach.

"I'm not disappointed or discouraged. I know it is going to be a hard year," said Nelson. "We just didn't play as well as we did the first two games. Bill Fitch did a great job against us tonight. Their small lineup was basically better than ours for a period of time and they had dominance on the boards. We will get better."

The Clippers extended their nine-point halftime lead to 70-55 with 4:34 remaining in the third quarter following two free throws by Rogers.

Dallas then made its move by going on 14-1 run for the rest of the quarter, pulling to within two points, at 71-69, following a 16-foot jumper by Samaki Walker with 2.6 seconds remaining.

The Mavericks tied the game, at 76-76, with 8:25 remaining following a Hubert Davis three-pointer. The Clippers regained the lead after one free throw from Martin and two free throws from Murray.

Reeves sank two free throws to cut the Clippers' lead to 79-78 with 6:50 remaining, but Martin answered with a three-pointer to give Los Angeles a four-point advantage, 82-78, on its next trip down the floor.

With just over three minutes left Davis connected on a shot in the lane to pull Dallas to within three, 87-84. However, on their next three possessions the Mavericks failed to score, with Finley losing the ball off his foot out of bounds, misfiring on a three-point attempt and Dennis Scott missing a jumper.

The Clippers took advantage of that dry spell to increase their lead to nine points, 93-84, with 1:15 remaining after James Robinson hit two free throws. Dallas got no closer than five points the rest of the way.

"We started the game with no energy. We could not get anything going, and once we got something going in the third quarter, we ran out of gas," said Scott.

Los Angeles outrebounded Dallas 51-41, outscored it 21-6 in second-chance points, and connected on 23-of-41 free throw attempts. Dallas was 15-of-17 from the line.
