GAME RECAP

Toni Kukoc scored five of his 14 points in a decisive 11-0 fourth quarter run and Dennis Rodman grabbed a season-high 24 rebounds to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 100-92 victory over the New Jersey Nets.

The win was only the fifth in 13 road games for the Bulls, while the Nets suffered only their third loss in 11 home contests.

"Dennis showed everyone who is the best rebounder in the game today," said Bulls coach Phil Jackson. "I think he came out that way because Jayson (New Jersey's Jayson Williams) was the league's leading rebounder. Dennis is having a great year, an All-Star season."

Michael Jordan scored 24 points and Ron Harper had 19 for the Bulls, who extended their winning streak to four games.

"I think that we finally put on a good road game," said Harper. "We came in here and realized that they have a good team and we played with that in mind."

Rookie Keith Van Horn led the Nets with 20 points. Kerry Kittles had 19 and Jayson Williams grabbed 17 rebounds for the Nets.

"I thought that we moved the ball the way we wanted. Up until halfway through the fourth quarter, I felt okay," said Nets coach John Calipari.

The Nets held a 73-67 lead early in the fourth quarter before the Bulls reeled off the next 11 points. Jordan hit a 19-foot jumper at the 9:45 mark to ignite the run and Kukoc completed a three-point play to pull the Bulls within one, 73-72.

Bill Wennington converted two free throws to give Chicago the lead for good with 8:27 left. Rodman scored on a dunk and Kukoc had a tip-in to cap the run and give the Bulls a 78-73 advantage with 5:56 remaining.

The Nets pulled within three on seperate occasions, the last coming at 82-79 on a Van Horn dunk with 4:13 left.

But New Jersey allowed numerous easy baskets down the stretch. Rodman scored on a tip-in, Harper hit an eight-footer in the lane, Randy Brown converted a layup and Luc Longley had a driving layup and a dunk in the final 3:44. Longley finished with 13 points.

A three-point play by Jordan gave Chicago its biggest lead at 95-86 with 46 seconds left. Steve Kerr converted four free throws in the final 42 seconds to seal the win.

"The key is we took care of the basketball in the fourth quarter," said Jordan. "The defense and intensity was strong. We were able to move the ball around when they double-teamed me. Our confidence is growing. We have been rising to the challenge of heavy competitors."

Kendall Gill and Sam Cassell each scored 16 points for the Nets. Williams finished with 12 points.

"We were trying to get over the hump," said Williams. "If we're going to do that, we have to beat the Chicago Bulls. They still are the best team in the world."

Harper scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half when the Bulls built a 48-45 halftime lead.

A 15-6 third quarter run gave New Jersey a 66-61 advantage. A tip-in and three free throws by Van Horn increased the Nets lead to 71-65 after the third quarter. The Bulls hit just 7-of-19 shots in the quarter.
