GAME RECAP

David Robinson scored a season-high 39 points and Tim Duncan added 18 and 17 rebounds as the red-hot San Antonio Spurs won their sixth straight game, 91-79 over the Indiana Pacers, who had their six-game winning streak snapped.

The Spurs, who also won their seventh consecutive home contest, trailed 53-47 early in the third quarter before Robinson and Duncan took over.

Reggie Miller nailed an 18-footer to give Indiana its six-point lead, but Duncan sank two buckets around a 16-footer by Robinson to forge a tie with 6:56 to go. San Antonio's Jaren Jackson hit a technical free throw for a 54-53 lead, Robinson hit a jumper and Duncan capped the run with a dunk to give the Spurs a 58-53 edge with 5:39 left.

"They didn't double-team me and I had a good matchup tonight," said Robinson. "Coach (Greg) Popovich told me to challenge (Rik) Smits at the rim."

Sean Elliott netted 12 points and Avery Johnson had 11 assists for the Spurs, who trailed at halftime, 47-40.

Miller scored 25 points and Rik Smits held his own with San Antonio's talented front line, scoring 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

The Spurs dominated Indiana on the backboards, holding a 46-32 edge. San Antonio also overcame 20 turnovers by hitting 50 percent (33-of-66) of its shots while limiting the Pacers to 38 percent (29-of-77) from the field.

"It's tough when they (the Spurs) have two big guys," Indiana coach Larry Bird said. "They played really tough tonight, usually you don't face teams with two guys like that."

It was Indiana's second-worst offensive output of the season. The Pacers were held to 77 points in a loss at Cleveland back on November 4th.

Starters Chris Mullin and Dale Davis were held to a combined six points for Indiana. Travis Best had 10 points and five assists off the bench for the Pacers, who fell to 8-6 on the road.

Robinson scored 10 points to pace the Spurs to a 26-19 edge after one period, but Indiana shut him down in the second as San Antonio was held to 14 points. Leading 41-40, the Pacers crafted a seven-point edge at the break on back-to-back three-pointers by Miller.

After Duncan's dunk put San Antonio ahead for good, the Pacers made a run and fought back to within 62-61 on a three-pointer by Jalen Rose. But Duncan sank a bucket and Will Perdue dunked to boost the lead to 66-62 after three quarters.

"Tim has been aggressive," Robinson said. "It looks like he's playing like an All-Star right now."

The Pacers pulled to within three points, 71-68, early in the final quarter, but Robinson reeled off nine straight points to put the game out of reach for Indiana. Robinson was 15-of-24 from the floor, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked three shots.

"David had a great performance tonight," Johnson said. "He is feeling good, but we have a lot of guys do things that don't show up in the box score."
