GAME RECAP

Glenn Robinson scored 28 points and Tyrone Hill had six of his 14 in overtime as the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the struggling Atlanta Hawks, 99-94, for just their second win in eight games.

The score was tied at 91-91 midway through overtime after a basket by Atlanta's Dikembe Mutombo, but Robinson hit a jumper to give the Bucks the lead for good and Hill scored four points in an 8-0 run.

Elliot Perry had 17 points and Ray Allen 15 for the Bucks, who had dropped six straight against the Hawks. Hill grabbed 16 rebounds.

"I am extremely happy about this win," Milwaukee coach Chris Ford said. "This was a nice Christmas present, although it was a day late. We played great basketball against one of the premier teams in the league."

Alan Henderson scored 20 points and Mookie Blaylock added 19 for Atlanta, which lost its fourth straight game. It is Atlanta's longest losing streak since dropping five in a row from December 1st-9th, 1995.

Consecutive baskets by Hill and Allen gave Milwaukee a two-point lead in overtime. Mutombo's offensive rebound and dunk tied it for the final time before the Bucks seized control.

Robinson knocked down a 20-footer with 2:07 left in the extra session, making it 93-91. Neither team could score for the next 90 seconds before Hill's follow shot increased Milwaukee's lead to 95-91 with 26 seconds to go. Allen and Hill each hit a pair of free throws in the final 15 seconds as the Bucks built the lead to 99-91.

"We have to get momentum," Hill said. "We have New Jersey tomorrow night and cannot look past them. We've been struggling and hopefully the fans will support us, win or lose."

Milwaukee had a 73-70 lead early in the fourth quarter before Atlanta scored six straight points to take its largest lead at 76-73 on a 21-footer by Christian Laettner with 9:26 remaining. Neither team led by more than three for the remainder of the period before Steve Smith knocked down a tough 15-footer with 10 seconds left to force the extra session.

The Bucks raced to a 30-21 lead after one quarter behind eight points from Robinson. Atlanta could only cut one point off the deficit in the second quarter and trailed 52-44 at halftime. But the Hawks used a big third quarter and closed within 72-70 entering the fourth period.

"The last couple of games have hurt us," Atlanta coach Lenny Wilkens said. "Tonight we were three days out of competition, and we hadn't practiced in a day, so we weren't as sharp. The Bucks simply outhustled us, and that's embarrassing. We screwed up a good opportunity."

Ervin Johnson finished with eight points and 12 boards for the Bucks, who shot 48 percent (39-for-81) from the field and held a 48-36 rebounding advantage.

Mutombo collected 15 points and 10 rebounds and Tyrone Corbin chipped in with 13 points for the Hawks, who shot 45 percent (37-of-83). Laettner had 11 points and Smith managed just 10 on 3-of-14 shooting.
