GAME RECAP

Chuck Person made a team-record nine three-pointers en route to a season-high 32 points and Sean Elliott added a season-best 22 as the San Antonio Spurs won for the eighth time in nine games, 124-115 over the Vancouver Grizzlies.

Person eclipsed Elliott's team record of eight three-pointers set in a 115-101 victory over the Phildelphia 76ers on March 2nd, 1996. The Spurs were 15-of-27 from behind the arc, breaking the team record for three-pointers in a game. San Antonio shot 56 percent (39-for-69) overall.

"Someone told me a couple of days ago that Wesley was the best shooter in the family," Person said about his brother. "I tend to disagree with that."

Rookie Tim Duncan recorded 22 points and nine rebounds for the Spurs, who defeated the Grizzlies for the third time in as many meetings this season. David Robinson grabbed 10 rebounds but was held to seven points -- two better than his career low. Avery Johnson totaled 14 points and 15 assists for the Spurs, who have won eight of 11 all-time meetings with the Grizzlies.

"With those guys shooting the ball like that I don't need to shoot it the whole game," Robinson said. "When I'm walking out of the game with seven shots something had to be up. Tonight I had to step back and watch and it was a good show they put on."

Sam Mack scored a season-high 28 points and Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 24 for the Grizzlies. Bryant Reeves had 14 points and 12 rebounds and rookie Antonio Daniels added 13 and seven assists for Vancouver, which has lost six of its last seven games.

"Oh my God, guys were damn near fouling him and he was hitting them," Abdur-Rahim said about Person. "We just didn't come out ready it's bad missing shots and all that, but if you're hustling and working hard you are not down 30, maybe 10, 12, 13, but not as bad as we was."

"How we can come out against a quality team and not have a sense of urgency and a sense of purpose to go out on the floor and really play well, I'm lost for an answer for that," Vancouver coach Brian Hill said.

Elliott, who made 8-of-13 shots from the field, had 10 points as the Spurs shot 65 percent (13-for-20) from the field in the first quarter for a 35-25 lead.

San Antonio dominated in the second period, shooting 53 percent (10-for-19), while Vancouver made just 7-of-25 (28 percent).

Person hit a trio of three-pointers in a 21-4 run that left the Spurs with a 64-36 bulge when Elliott made a free throw with 1:51 left in the first half. San Antonio's 69 points at the break were a season high and also represented the most allowed in a half by Vancouver.

Elliott hit a three-pointer to give the Spurs their biggest lead, 74-45, with 10:30 left in the third quarter. Abdur-Rahim hit a layup to cap a 13-3 burst and cut San Antonio's lead to 84-70 with 3:57 left in the period. The Grizzlies did not close the margin under double digits until Abdur-Rahim dunked for the final score.
