GAME RECAP

Karl Malone scored 39 points to move into eighth place on the all-time scoring list as the Utah Jazz defeated the Milwaukee Bucks for the 10th straight time at home, 116-109.

Playing in his 500th straight game, Malone moved past John Havlicek and now has 26,432 points in his career. He trails seventh-place Dominique Wilkins by just 102 points.

"I haven't felt like I have been shooting the ball really well and just before the game it felt like I was getting my rhythm back," said Malone, who shot 13-of-16. "So, like I said, the ball was just feeling right and I felt confident with my shot, especially in the second half."

The Jazz continued to make the Delta Center a nightmare for the Bucks, who have not won in Utah since March 26th, 1988. Milwaukee has allowed an average of 109.9 points in seven games at the Delta Center.

Jeff Hornacek added 20 points for the Jazz, who have won five straight games and 11 of the last 12 games in the series.

Terrell Brandon scored 29 points and Ray Allen added 21 for the Bucks, who have dropped four of their last five games, allowing at least 106 points in all the losses. Allen was held to one point in the second half.

Milwaukee closed within 88-85 with just nine minutes left on a free throw by Jamie Feick. But Malone hit two free throws and Bryon Russell dunked to push the lead to 92-85 with 8:18 to go. Michael Curry hit two free throws for the Bucks, but Shandon Anderson converted a three-point play to make it 95-87 with 7:47 remaining.

Glenn Robinson made two foul shots to bring Milwaukee within six points, but Utah scored the next six points to pull away. Russell and Malone each hit a pair of free throws before Malone's tip-in extended the Jazz lead to 101-89 with six minutes to go.

"I was surprised we were able to hang in there," Milwaukee coach Chris Ford. "They scored a majority of their points in the paint against us tonight, and we just couldn't stop their ability to get the ball in the paint, either with the drive or the pass."

Utah kept building its lead and was still ahead 116-103 before it removed its starters and Milwaukee scored the final six points.

The Jazz held a four-point lead after one quarter before Allen took over in the second. He poured in 18 points in the period, helping the Bucks grabbed a 56-53 halftime lead. Utah battled back to tie at 66-66 on Malone's dunk and took the lead for good at 81-80 after Hornacek knocked down two free throws with 36 seconds left in the third.

"You can't worry about letting one man beat you in this game," Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "Basketball is a team game and you are going to have guys get hot on you. Karl had a good first quarter and then Allen had a strong run. We made the adjustments on him and Brandon took over. You can't panic, just stay in your game plan and execute and good things will happen for you."

Russell and Anderson had 17 points apiece for the Jazz, who shot 66 percent (42-of-64) from the field. John Stockton handed out 13 assists, while Greg Ostertag had six points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots.

Robinson finished with 20 points and eight rebounds and Andrew Lang had 13 points for the Bucks, who shot 44 percent (40-of-90). Leading rebounder Tyrone Hill played just 10 minutes before suffering a sprained right knee in the second quarter.
