GAME RECAP

Michael Jordan scored 27 points, including 10 of the Bulls' final 12, and Scottie Pippen added 21 as Chicago stopped the Milwaukee Bucks, 96-86.

Trailing 55-41 at halftime, the Bucks, who had won three straight games, came alive in the second half and pulled to within 73-69 after three quarters. But Toni Kukoc started the fourth with a three-pointer and Randy Brown followed with a bucket to give the Bulls some breathing room.

"Tony hit a big three in the fourth quarter for us," said Chicago coach Phil Jackson. "(Milwaukee's Ray) Allen was terrific at the three-point line, he played a great game from that distance."

The Bucks were within eight points with just under five minutes left before Jordan took over, starting his parade of shots with a fadeaway jumper that boosted the lead to 86-76.

"Tonight our defense won it in the fourth quarter," said Jordan, who along with his teammates held the Bucks to 17 fourth-quarter points. "Our intensity was at a high level, and we made the right adjustments."

Luc Longley collected 15 points and Dennis Rodman was shut out in the scoring column but grabbed 12 rebounds for Chicago, which won for the fourth time in five games.

Allen hit a team-record seven three-pointers, missing just once from behind the arc to finish with 27 points for the Bucks. But he missed all 10 of his two-point attempts.

Jordan had 11 points as Chicago built a 28-20 lead after one period. Milwaukee sliced the margin to 30-24 on a basket by Terrell Brandon with 10:36 left before the Bulls pulled away with an 11-2 surge.

Brown, who finished with eight points, sparked the burst with back-to-back buckets and Longley capped it, giving the Bulls a 41-26 edge with 8:00 remaining.

Pippen, who had 10 first-quarter points, led with 13 at the break for Chicago. For the game, the Bulls shot 49 percent (35-of-72) from the field and converted on 21-of-24 free throws. Pippen was 7-of-7 from the line.

The Bucks got as close as 71-69 on a 21-footer by Brandon with 26 seconds left in the third quarter. But Pippen hit a pair from the line as the Bulls ended the period by reeling off seven consecutive points. Brandon finished with 21 points, nine assists and three steals.

"My shots didn't fall and the game went back and forth," said Brandon, who was 10-of-23 from the floor. "We played hard but we lost. We're going to have to come back and practice hard tomorrow. I'm not happy because it's not good enough."

Glenn Robinson had 20 points and Tyrone Hill grabbed nine boards for Milwaukee, which shot 43 percent (33-of-77) from the field and went to the line just 13 times, making eight.

The win moved Chicago (27-12) within .002 percentage points of the first-place Pacers (25-11) in the Central Division.
