GAME RECAP

Karl Malone had 32 points and nine rebounds and the Utah Jazz won for the 13th time in 14 games at the Delta Center with a 107-93 victory over the struggling Orlando Magic.

Malone was 11-of-16 from the field as the Jazz completed a sweep of the season series, having won 85-73 in Orlando on December 18th. Utah outscored the Magic 30-18 in the fourth quarter en route to their eighth win in nine games overall and the fifth straight against Orlando.

John Stockton chipped in with 21 points and 10 assists and Adam Keefe added nine rebounds for the Jazz, who had their seven-game winning streak snapped on Friday with a 96-86 loss at Portland.

"I haven't been shooting the ball well the past couple of games, and I don't have a good feel for it right now, but we keep running the same plays and I was able to make some tonight," said Malone. "It was a nice effort by everybody tonight. We bounced back from a tough loss last night and the guys came out and got the job done."

Vernon Maxwell scored 18 points in 14 minutes off the bench to lead Orlando, which lost for the 13th time in 17 games. Gerald Wilkins added 16 points and Bo Outlaw 16 rebounds for the Magic, who started their five-game West Coast trip with a victory over Denver but has since lost three in a row.

Utah outrebounded Orlando 44-34 and held a big advantage in field goal shooting, 57 percent (37-for-65) to 37 percent (29-for-80).

Orlando center Rony Seikaly played only 13 minutes of the first half, leaving with a sore back after getting two rebounds and missing all five of his shots from the field.

"Utah played good defense and executed when they had to. I think we were 4-for-15 over the last nine minutes and you can't beat a club like the Jazz when you do that," said Orlando coach Chuck Daly. "Our guys hung in there and they gave a much better effort than we had last night. I'm not happy about the score but I'm not unhappy with our effort."

The Jazz built a 10-point lead twice in the third quarter, the second time at 75-65 with 3:25 left after two free throws by Malone.

Orlando answered with a 10-2 burst to close out the quarter, capped off by a three-pointer by Maxwell to make it 77-75.

Utah disrupted Orlando's momentum with a 7-0 spurt over the first 90 seconds of the fourth quarter, with a three-pointer by Stockton increasing the Jazz's lead to 84-75.

Nick Anderson's three-pointer at the 9:18 mark pulled Orlando to within 85-80, but the Jazz put the game away with a 14-3 run over the next 6:06, making it 99-83 following a fastbreak layup by Bryon Russell. Malone had eight of Utah's points during that spurt.

"Orlando has a lot of people hurt and they're still scrambling around to do everything they can to win," said Utah coach Jerry Sloan. "They played hard and hung in there with us very well."
