GAME RECAP

Voshon Lenard scored 26 points and Tim Hardaway added 24 as the Miami Heat put an end to the Philadelphia 76ers' longest winning streak in six years with a 92-87 victory.

Alonzo Mourning added 20 points and nine rebounds for the Heat, who snapped a season-high three-game losing streak. Hardaway also dished out 11 assists as Miami recorded its sixth consecutive win over the Sixers.

"It was good to get back on the winning track and I thought there were some things that we did much better tonight," Miami coach Pat Riley said.

Derrick Coleman scored 22 points and rookie Tim Thomas added 20 for Philadelphia, which had its four-game winning streak snapped. The run was the Sixers' longest since winning five straight from January 18th-25th, 1992.

The Sixers trailed 74-61 entering the final quarter before scoring the first nine points of the period, capped by Allen Iverson's jumper to draw within 74-70 with 7:38 to play. Iverson finished with 19 points.

Thomas' three-pointer with 49 seconds to play brought the Sixers to within 86-85, but they could get no closer. Hardaway nailed a jumper with 28 seconds left for an 88-85 lead. Any hopes the Sixers had of coming back were thwarted when Jim Jackson fumbled the ball away with under 20 seconds left. Jamal Mashburn and Lenard connected on four free throws to seal the win.

Leading 53-52 early in the third, Miami embarked on its second big burst, scoring 14 straight points to take its biggest lead at 67-52 with 5:15 left in the period. Hardaway scored six points in the surge.

"We played against a team that plays at a high level," Philadelphia coach Larry Brown said. "We were down 15 and had a chacne to win, so that's obviously a plus."

Miami raced out to a 17-8 lead four minutes into the contest, but Sixers responded with an 11-0 spurt, capped by Coleman's layup for a 19-17 lead. Iverson and Theo Ratliff keyed the run with nine of the 11 points.

The Sixers led 29-25 after one quarter and they pushed the lead to 42-34 before the Heat scored 15 straight points to take a 49-42 lead with under a minute left in the half. Hardaway was the key contributor in the burst with seven points.

Mourning led the Heat with 15 points in the opening half and Hardaway netted 14 as Miami held a 49-46 lead at intermission.

The trio of Lenard, Mourning and Hardaway connected on 29-of-50 shots for the Heat, who shot 45 percent (35-of-78) from the field. The Sixers finished 49 percent (32-for-65).

"Wer have to control the boards and it's not just Tim and myself," Mourning said. "Everybody's got to play well. Tim has the ball 80 to 90 percent of the time. So we have to have his energy and I have to control the rebounds. We have to get back to old Miami Heat defense."
