GAME RECAP

Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 11 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead free throw with 1.3 seconds left, as the Cleveland Cavaliers posted their first road win over the Miami Heat in nearly six years, 94-93.

The Heat trailed 90-86 with 1:16 to go before Tim Hardaway went on a tear, scoring Miami's next seven points, including a three-pointer with 21 seconds left that forged a 93-93 deadlock.

But Ilgauskas, whose three-point play earlier in the period erased the Cavaliers' last deficit, drove to the hoop and was fouled by Jamal Mashburn. He hit one of two free throws, giving Cleveland its first win in Miami since April 3rd, 1992, and ending a 10-game skid there.

"It was an optional play, no one really knew who was going to take a shot," said Ilgauskas. "I was open and (rookie) Derek (Anderson) got me the ball and I went to the basket. After the first (free throw) one was made, I got too excited."

The Heat called a tiemout and inbounded at halfcourt after the free throw, but were unable to get a shot off.

"We didn't only give this one away, but we didn't come out with a lot of energy in the third, and just didn't play well," said Mashburn. "It shouldn't have come to a final shot in the last seconds, we should have beaten this team but we didn't."

Hardaway had sliced the margin to 92-90 on a pair from the line with 53 seconds left before Ilgauskas, who was 7-of-11 from the line, hit a free throw to boost the lead to three points.

Vitaly Potapenko added 18 points for the Cavs, who have won three straight and five of their last seven games.

"They have strong guys in front, so we had to hold our own under the basket," Potapenko said. "We did a good job on him (Mourning) in the second half, keeping him off the boards and keeping him from scoring."

Hardaway matched a season high with 33 points and Alonzo Mourning contributed 23 and 14 rebounds for the Heat, who remained two games ahead of second-place New York in the Atlantic Division.

Cleveland fought back from a 53-46 halftime deficit, pulling even at 61-61 on Anderson's three-pointer with 5:41 to go in the third period. The teams exchanged buckets before Ilagauskas netted four straight points and Potapenko sank a layup to give the Cavs a 69-63 lead.

"I thought in the third quarter, about eight minutes into the third quarter, the tenor of the game was totally changed," said Miami coach Pat Riley. "They simply dominated us physically. We couldn't move."

Anderson had nine points and seven assists and Wesley Person netted 16 points for Cleveland, which shot 46 percent (30-of-65) from the field and 86.5 percent (32-of-37) from the line.

Shawn Kemp was held to 10 points and four rebounds and rookie Brevin Knight, who played just 19 foul-plagued minutes, managed only six points and two assists for Cleveland.

Knight did contribute down the stretch, however, extending the lead to 92-88 with a pair of free throws with 1:16 to go.

Isaac Austin had 14 points and six rebounds off the bench but Mashburn was just 2-of-11 from the floor. He managed 11 points for the Heat, who hit 44 percent (31-of-70) of their shots, including 7-of-16 from behind the arc.

Mourning had 14 points and Hardaway 11 as the Heat exploded for a 36-23 lead after one period.
