GAME RECAP

Karl Malone scored 29 points and John Stockton added 17 and 10 assists as the Utah Jazz rebounded from a rare home loss and remained perfect at the Delta Center against the Dallas Mavericks with a 104-94 victory.

Greg Ostertag grabbed 10 rebounds for the Jazz, who had their seven-game home winning streak snapped in Wednesday's 101-93 loss to Seattle. Utah improved to 17-0 all-time at the Delta Center against Dallas and has won 22 consecutive home meetings with the Mavericks, dating back to a 94-87 loss at the Salt Palace on February 9th, 1989.

Adam Keefe, Jeff Hornacek and Shandon Anderson each scored 11 points for the Jazz, who improved to 19-4 at home this season.

"They played hard and we were a little off," Hornacek said. "We got it going when we got down but they hung right there with us and they've got good one-on-one players so they were able to stick around but we just kept after them and were able to pull it out."

Michael Finley had 27 points and six rebounds and Hubert Davis added 19 points for the Mavericks, who have lost eight of their last 10 games and 17 straight on the road. Shawn Bradley totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots for Utah, which was outrebounded, 45-31.

"I thought we did a good job tonight, I mean they are a good veteran club and they did what they are supposed to do for the most part, especially when it came to crunch time for them," Bradley said. "I thought we hung in there well and played a fairly good basketball game. You know we're in the rebuilding process and they're a championship basketball team and we are doing our best to get better."

Malone scored four points in a 9-0 burst that he capped with a jumper, giving the Jazz a 76-65 lead with 53 seconds remaining in the third period. Utah opened the fourth quarter with an 8-2 surge, capped by Anderson's layup for an 86-72 advantage with 10:25 to play.

Dallas answered with eight straight points and closed within 86-80 when A.C. Green made a jumper with 8:27 remaining.

But the Mavericks got no closer as Greg Foster sank a jumper 22 seconds later to ignite an 11-2 run. Anderson's tip-in capped the spurt, giving the Jazz their biggest lead, 97-82, with 4:47 left.

Malone had 15 points in the first half as Utah held a 46-44 edge at the break. Davis gave the Mavericks their last lead, 57-55, on a layup with 7:53 to go in the third quarter. Stockton's layup tied it 13 seconds later, Ostertag had a tip-in and Jeff Hornacek made a pair of free throws for a 61-57 lead with 6:23 left.

"I don't know that we overlooked them," said Ostertag. "We came out with a lot of energy and we were real active right there in the beginning and then we got a little lackadaisicaland they're not a bad team if you're not careful they'll beat you on any given night."
