GAME RECAP

Michael Finley had 30 points and 12 rebounds and Erick Strickland added 21 points off the bench as the Dallas Mavericks continued their mastery of the Vancouver Grizzlies with a 104-90 victory.

Finley connected on 11-of-19 shots from the field and is averaging 31.6 points in his last five games. Hubert Davis contributed 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting and A.C. Green had 10 and 11 rebounds for the Mavericks, who defeated the Grizzlies for the third time this season and 10th time in 11 all-time meetings.

"We played well a lot of the game," said Dallas coach Don Nelson. "We increased our lead and took care of the ball in the fourth quarter. We've been playing really solid basketball for the last two months now. Wins are hard to come by and there's a lot of losses there, but there's been a lot of good play by us. He (Finley) is in a great rhythm right now and we're riding it right now."

Dallas shot 45 percent (39-for-86) from the field, including 7-of-11 from three-point range, and committed just six turnovers. Strickland drained three three-pointers, sank all four of his free throws and handed out four assists off the bench. Shawn Bradley tallied seven points, seven rebounds and five blocks for Dallas, which won for just the third time in its last 12 games.

Bryant Reeves had 19 points and 10 rebounds and rookie Antonio Daniels added 15 points for the Grizzlies, who committed 18 turnovers in losing their fourth straight game. Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who entered the game averaging 22.8 points, was guarded by Green and limited to nine points on 2-for-9 shooting.

"They took the ball wherever they had to offensively off the dribble and opened up their shooters on the weak side of the floor," said Vancouver coach Brian Hill. "We didn't do a good job all night of keeping their ballhandlers out of the middle of the floor. They did a good job and worked hard. A.C. Green worked hard, Bradley blocked a few shots, he'll have a night like that once in a while. We played poorly tonight. That's where frustration sets in."

Bradley's tip-in ignited a 7-0 spurt and put the Mavericks up for good, 14-13, with 4:55 left in the opening period. Finley's three-pointer capped the run with 3:03 to go.

"I think the biggest thing is that we are winning," Finley said. "The points are secondary for me. I just go out there and try to win ballgames, that's my main objective. We had to step up defensively tonight. We knew offensively we could score on this team. We know we have offensive threats on this team. Our downfall and our losses have been our defense. We continue to compete for 48 minutes and we came out victorious."

Vancouver scored six straight points to close within 36-33 when George Lynch dunked with 6:47 remaining in the second. But the Mavericks responded with an 11-0 burst capped by Strickland's 16-footer for a 47-33 bulge with 3:57 to go in the first half. Finley had 15 points as Dallas held a 51-43 lead at the intermission.

Dallas took its biggest lead, 86-69, when Eric Riley made a 17-footer with 7:44 left in the game.
