GAME RECAP

Nick Anderson had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Mark Price added 16 points as the Orlando Magic won consecutive home games for the first time in almost two months with a 93-83 victory over the Washington Wizards.

Bo Outlaw contributed 15 points and Penny Hardaway added 11 of his 13 in the fourth period as the Magic won two straight at home for the first time since December 8th-10th against Philadelphia and Chicago. It was Orlando's first win over an opponent with a winning record since a 96-87 triumph against Charlotte on December 27th.

"They're competitive, I don't think anybody really wants to lose," Outlaw said. "They took some big shots and hit them."

Anderson also handed out seven assists and made 7-of-18 shots from the floor.

"I believe in myself and that's what matters," said Anderson. "I've been a starter my whole career. If you keep the faith anything can happen. I can rebound with the best of them. I don't know how to do that (quit)."

Rod Strickland had 25 points and nine assists and Calbert Cheaney added 14 points for the Wizards, who had their three-game winning streak stopped and have lost all three meetings with Orlando this season.

Washington forward Chris Webber missed his second straight game with a strained right shoulder and frontcourt partner Juwan Howard left the contest with 6:48 left in the first period with a sprained left ankle.

"It's a tough adjustment, we just had to keep playing," said Strickland. "We tried but we just couldn't get it done."

Ben Wallace scored five points in Washington's 9-0 spurt that ended the third quarter and cut the deficit to 66-59. But Hardaway capped an 18-8 burst with a three-pointer -- his third of the run -- for an 80-67 advantage with 7:48 to go.

"They started leaving me open," Hardaway said. "Their guy just followed me on the wing and I just got into a nice rhythm with shooting the basketball and they went down for me. I missed some easy ones earlier in the game, hit the hard ones, some longer threes. It still gives me confidence but I don't know what really happened, what triggered it in the fourth quarter. But they left me open, I shot the ball and knocked it down."

"That hurt our momentum, that stuck a dagger in us," Strickland said of Hardaway's three-pointers.

Wallace matched career highs with 10 points and 13 rebounds as the Wizards lost for the fourth time in their last five road games.

Strickland made a jumper to cap a 12-4 surge and pull the Wizards within 84-79 with 3:50 remaining. But Horace Grant answered with a layup and Price followed with a running jumper for an 88-79 advantage with 2:46 to go. After Strickland's basket, the Wizards did not have another field goal.

The lead changed hands nine times before Danny Schayes made a 16-footer to put the Magic ahead for good, 18-17, with 11:33 left in the second quarter. Derek Strong, who had 11 points and five rebounds off the bench, converted a three-point play to cap an 18-9 run and give Orlando its biggest lead at 47-31 with 1:39 left in the first half.

Grant scored his 10,000th career point when he dunked on a fast break with 8:25 left in the opening period.

"It felt great," Grant said. "The 10,000th was easy but the points after that were difficult to come by."
