GAME RECAP

Michael Finley's three-point jumper with one second left in the second overtime lifted Dallas to a stunning 85-82 victory over the listless Indiana Pacers and snapped a 22-game road losing streak for the Mavericks.

Finley hit a 27-footer from the right of the top of the three-point arc to cap a 32-point night. However, Finley hit just 13-of-36 shots from the field. He added eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.

"I finally hit one, the odds were in my favor," said Finley. "You have to just keep shooting. I knew if I got the ball, I'd take the last shot. Luckily, Dennis (Scott) saw me and I made it."

A layup by Dallas' Shawn Bradley with 2.2 seconds left in regulation after an intentional missed free throw by Finley tied the game at 74-74 and forced overtime.

Dallas also broke a six-game losing streak at Indiana, last winning on February 27th, 1991. Hubert Davis had 16 points for the Mavericks.

"Who said we couldn't win on the road," said Mavericks coach Don Nelson. "You just can't predict this game. We came in and beat the best team when we haven't been able to beat anyone."

The loss was only the second for the Pacers in their last 20 games at Market Square Arena.

The teams combined for just 58 points in the first half to tie an NBA record. Indiana held a 34-24 halftime lead as the Mavericks shot just 34 percent from the field and committed 12 turnovers. The 24 points allowed in a half is a Pacers record and the fewest scored in a first half by Dallas.

Fort Wayne and Syracuse combined for 58 points in the first half of game on January 25th, 1955. The fewest combined points in a half is 51 (second half) by Boston and Milwaukee on February 27th, 1955.

"We played excellent defense the first half, but we couldn't make a shot," said Pacers coach Larry Bird.

Rik Smits led the Pacers with 12 points, but hit just 4-of-17 shots from the field. Mark Jackson had 11 points and Reggie Miller added 10 on 5-of-13 shooting from the field for Indiana.

Indiana jumped to a 22-6 lead in the first nine-and-a-half minutes and held a 24-12 advantage at the end of the quarter. The Mavs were 6-of-19 from the field in the quarter.

Indiana scored just 10 points in the second quarter, but still held a 10-point halftime advantage. The Pacers were 5-of-16 from the field in the quarter.

Despite the pathetic first half, a 20-9 third quarter run gave Dallas a 50-47 advantage. Finley highlighted the spurt with a pair of three-pointers and a layup. The Mavericks outscored Indiana, 29-15, in the third quarter as the Pacers converted just 4-of-18 from the field.

"They came out in the third quarter and manhandled us," said Bird.

But an 11-4 fourth quarter run gave Indiana a 66-61 lead with three minutes left.

The Mavericks trailed 74-71 when Finley was fouled attempting a three-pointer with 3.5 seconds left. But Finley missed the first free throw, hit the second and then missed the third intentionally. The 7-6 Bradley rebounded the intentional miss off the back of the rim and scored on a layup to tie the game at 74-74.

"I think they cross-picked and Bradley snuck out and it bounced perfect to him," said Bird. "There's not much you can say."

Each team scored just four points in the first overtime.

Indiana held its biggest lead in the second overtime at 81-78 after a layup by Jackson with 3:15 left. A 12-foot jumper by Bradley and a layup by Dennis Scott put Dallas ahead, 82-81, before a free throw by Jackson tied the game at 82-82 with 62 seconds left.
