GAME RECAP

Cliff Robinson had 20 points and seven rebounds and Antonio McDyess added 18 and 13 as the Phoenix Suns used a huge rebounding advantage for their 10th straight win in Dallas, a 95-77 romp over the Mavericks.

Former Maverick Jason Kidd had 17 points and matched a season high with 14 boards for Phoenix, which outrebounded Dallas, 67-29. Despite committing 24 turnovers, the Suns outscored the Mavericks, 40-28, in the paint and defeated them for the third time this season and eighth time in the last nine matchups.

"There aren't any style points in the win-loss column," Kidd said. "A win is a win and you have to walk away and get ready for the next game. It seems like most of the boos are disappearing. I think the fans are realizing that I play hard, I work hard and I try to win every game."

"It was one of the worst games we've played all year," said Phoenix coach Danny Ainge. "In the first half our execution was sloppy and our turnovers killed us. We had good energy and got second-chance points and rebounds but our shooting was bad."

Michael Finley scored 22 points and Dennis Scott added 17 for the Mavericks, who have lost six of their last seven games overall. Dallas, which shot 33 percent (30-for-89) from the field, has not beaten Phoenix at home since February 28th, 1992. The Mavericks scored just eight points off Phoenix's 24 turnovers.

"I think that we ran out of gas," Finley said. "I don't know if it was the long road trip or what but we didn't have the enthusiasm that we had on the road. We didn't have the energy that we needed to win this ballgame tonight."

Dallas stayed close throughout the first two quarters, closing within 35-33 when Shawn Bradley hit a 10-foot hook shot with 47 seconds left in the first half. But Danny Manning answered with a jumper and McDyess converted a three-point play to give Phoenix a 40-33 cushion 18 seconds before halftime. Manning came off the bench to tally eight points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

Kidd sank a three-pointer to open the third period. Bradley answered with a layup and Hubert Davis followed with a 20-footer to pull the Mavericks within 43-37 with 10:24 left in the period. Davis finished with 10 points, making 5-of-12 shots from the field. Robinson drained a three-pointer to give the Suns a 46-37 advantage and ignite a 20-9 run. Robinson had 12 of his 14 third-quarter points in the run that was capped by two free throws from McDyess for a 63-46 bulge with 4:25 to play in the third.

"They have a deep talented roster," said Dallas coach Don Nelson. "When we were only 10 down in the third I thought we could get a little lucky and make a run off it but they just kept pulling away in the fourth quarter."

Phoenix had its biggest cushion at 80-59 when George McCloud dunked with 6:33 left in the game.

The Suns received 34 points from their bench, 17 points better than the Mavericks' substitutes. Phoenix made 11-of-12 (92 percent) shots from the free-throw line.
