GAME RECAP

Antoine Walker scored 12 of his 25 points in a lopsided third quarter and Kenny Anderson added 21 and nine assists as the Boston Celtics resumed their home domination of the Sacramento Kings with a 111-94 victory.

Boston's surge actually began with 22 seconds left in the second quarter when Walter McCarty snapped a 51-51 deadlock with a lay-in. Dana Barros gave the Celtics a 56-51 halftime edge with a three-pointer at the buzzer before Walker, who also collected 10 rebounds, opened the third quarter with a three-pointer and a layup to complete a 10-0 burst.

"We had a good win tonight," said Walker. "Kenny was outstanding. I think it's going to be fun playing with him."

The Celtics' pressing defense played a big part in the victory. They had 17 steals, led by Ron Mercer's five, and turned 23 Sacramento turnovers into 35 points. Anderson, playing in his third game since being acquired from the Toronto Raptors in a seven-player deal, had three steals.

"The trade worked out for both teams," said Boston coach Rick Pitino. "We got a true point guard and we saw that from Kenny tonight. He works hard, he's fun to be around. He reminds me of Tiny Archibald. He's quick, he finishes well, and he creates."

By contrast, the Celtics committed just 12 turnovers that were exchanged for only seven points, with Anderson playing 31 minutes without losing the ball.

Mercer also contributed 15 points, six assists and six rebounds for the Celtics, who last season had their 17-game home winning streak against the Kings halted.

Billy Owens totaled 20 points and 11 rebounds and Mitch Richmond added 19 points for Sacramento, which suffered its fourth consecutive loss and fell to 5-23 on the road.

"The big reason why we lost was a lot of turnovers," Richmond said. "We had way too many and gave up way too many points off them. We can't win on the road. It seems like no matter who we play on the road we lose by 20."

The Celtics continued to pour it on after taking the lead, outscoring Sacramento 32-17 in the third period. Pervis Ellison's layup with a tenth of a second left sent Boston into the fourth quarter with an 88-68 lead.

Corliss Williamson had 16 points and seven assists and Terry Dehere added 15 points for the Kings, who dropped to 1-12 on the road against the Eastern Conference. Their lone win came at Orlando on November 12th.

The Kings outshot Boston from the field, 50 percent (35-of-70) to 47 percent (46-of-98), but were beaten on the backboards, 48-40.

Boston, playing at the FleetCenter for the first time since February 4th, posted its third straight victory at home. It was the Celtics' first game back from a 3-5 road swing that included a 102-99 loss at Sacramento on February 17th.
