GAME RECAP

Cedric Ceballos scored 22 points and Hubert Davis had 12 of his 19 in the pivotal second quarter as the Dallas Mavericks completed a surprising road trip with a 110-99 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Michael Finley contributed 17 points and nine assists for the Mavericks, who were 3-23 on the road before going 2-3 on their five-game road trip. Dallas shot 95 percent (19-for-20) from the line, made 7-of-14 three-pointers and held a 41-37 edge in rebounds.

"We played well and we finished it off," Ceballos said. "Last night (a 100-94 loss to Detroit), we didn't rebound as well and couldn't finish that one off. We outrebounded a big team and put ourselves in position to win."

Kevin Garnett recorded 22 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists and Stephon Marbury added 17 points and seven assists for the Timberwolves, who have lost six of their last nine games.

"As I told our guys before the game, you are looking at a dangerous game when you play a team that has a lot of offensive weapons," said Minnesota coach Flip Saunders. "A team that three nights ago beat a full-strength Washington team by 30. This is a team that basically had Detroit beat until the fourth quarter."

A.C. Green scored six of his eight points and Davis added five as the Mavericks used a 13-2 run midway through the second period to put away the game.

Terry Porter, who had nine points and five assists, hit a three-pointer to pull the Timberwolves within 32-31 with 7:22 left in the period. But Shawn Bradley, who came off the bench, made a seven-foot hook shot to trigger the surge that ended when Davis sank three free throws for a 45-33 advantage with 4:40 to go in the quarter.

"Two wins on the road, that was great," said Dallas coach Don Nelson. "That was fun. We played good solid tough basketball. I like my new sixth man (Bradley) a lot. That was interesting. We might try that again. We just wanted to try and take a look at Bradley coming off the bench."

Dallas shot 68 percent (15-for-22) from the field in the period and outscored Minnesota, 35-27. The Mavericks held a 59-47 advantage at halftime and did not let the lead fall below 10 points in the third period.

The Mavericks built their biggest lead when Green hit a pair of free throws to make it 73-56 with 5:27 to play in the third quarter.

Marbury opened the fourth quarter with a pair of free throws and then completed a three-point play to pull the Wolves within 83-74 with 11:15 to go. But Ceballos answered with a three-pointer 28 seconds later and Minnesota could not cut the deficit under 10 points thereafter.

Ceballos had nine points in the first period as the Mavericks took a 24-20 lead. Minnesota tied the game for the final time when Tom Hammonds dunked to make it 20-20 with 1:41 left. But Bradley, who finished with 16 points and nine rebounds, answered with a 17-footer with 49 seconds left.
