GAME RECAP

Kevin Garnett scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and the Minnesota Timberwolves never trailed, rolling to a 113-91 rout of the Toronto Raptors, who lost for the 10th time in their last 12 games.

Stephon Marbury had 17 points and 12 assists, while Stanley Roberts added 15 points for Minnesota, which won for the eighth time in their last 11 home games.

"We've had a tendency in the past to jump on a team and then relax a little bit and let them back into a game," Minnesota coch Flip Saunders said. "We didn't give them an opportunity to get back in the game in the second half. As a team we had 31 assists and I thought we played at a good, high-energy level.

Chauncey Billups scored 20 points, John Wallace had 18 and Marcus Camby contributed nine rebounds for the Raptors, who have lost three straight and fell to 0-6 all-time at Minnesota. Toronto has dropped nine of its last 11 on the road.

Minnesota outrebounded the Raptors, 50-43, outshot them 51 percent (46-for-90) to 44 percent (34-for-78), and turned 21 Toronto turnovers into 25 points.

The Timberwolves scored the game's first seven points and extended the lead to 11-1 after a dunk by Roberts with 8:53 remaining.

Toronto cut the deficit to 27-19 with 2:44 left on a layup by Reggie Slater, but Minnesota responded with an 8-1 run over the remainder of the quarter, capped by a driving layup by Marbury to make it 35-20.

The Raptors cut the Wolves' lead to 46-35 with 4:52 left in the second quarter after a layup by Camby. But Minnesota put together a 16-6 burst, highlighted by two three-pointers from Terry Porter, to open a commanding 62-41 lead with 75 seconds left before halftime.

The Timberwolves increased their lead to 80-55 midway through the third quarter after a fastbreak dunk by Garnett capped an 11-3 spurt.

"I've been getting a lot of rest lately and I am starting to get my legs back," Garnett said. "Without Googs (injured forward Tom Gugliotta), everybody has to step up. I know I have to take care of myself even more now."

Toronto scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to make it 91-74 before Minnesota built its lead to 103-80 following a free throw by Garnett with 7:05 remaining. The closest the Raptors got down the stretch was 104-89 on a free throw by Tracy McGrady with two minutes left.

"I think we ran into a snakepit here," Toronto coach Butch Carter said. "We beat them in a game at Toronto in which they controlled the whole game. They remembered that and needed a win in their playoff fight. They shot 63 percent in the first quarter and it was like we were running in sand the rest of the night."
