GAME RECAP

Tim Hardaway scored 27 points and the Miami Heat held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Dallas Mavericks to earn their 11th straight road win, 94-88.

The Heat, who have won 12 of their last 13 games, own the NBA's best road record at 22-11.

"Last year we were a great road team," Miami's Dan Majerle said. "We've really picked it up in our last 12 games. That's what good teams have to do, go out and win on the road. Dallas hung in there and made a run at us in the end. They have a lot of enthusiasm."

Alonzo Mourning added 21 points and 16 rebounds and P.J. Brown 18 and eight for Miami, which has beaten the Mavericks 13 straight times, including the last six meetings in Dallas.

Michael Finley scored 24 points, Cedric Ceballos had 17 and Chris Anstey a season-high 12 rebounds and four blocks for Dallas, which was trying for three straight wins for the first time since winning its first three games of the season. The Mavericks have not beaten Miami since December 10th, 1991.

"We played tenaciously for 48 minutes, and when you play like that, it's gonna take a lot out of you," Finley said. "They knocked down some big shots and got the victory. As the season goes on, we're learning to play with each other. We're learning to play coach Nelson's system. For the most part, I think we've improved."

Miami outrebounded Dallas, 45-34, and outshot the Mavs from the field, 46 percent (35-for-76) to 43 percent (35-for-81). Dallas connected on 6-of-12 three-pointers while Heat were only 5-for-17 from behind the arc.

Trailing 73-58 to start the fourth quarter, Dallas went on a 10-0 run in just over two minutes to cut the lead to five. Three-pointers by Erick Strickland and Finley keyed the rally.

After a dunk by Mourning made it 75-68, Dallas took the lead with a 10-2 burst. Hubert Davis opened the run with a running jumper and capped it with a three-pointer at 6:23 to put the Mavs ahead, 78-77.

With 4:13 remaining, Dallas pulled into a tie for the last time at 82-82 on a nine-footer by Finley. Brown's dunk 55 seconds later put Miami ahead for good as the Heat outscored the Mavs down the stretch, 12-6.

Dallas pulled within 87-86 with 40 seconds left after Finley sank a layup, but on Miami's next possession Majerle connected on a three-pointer to put the Heat back up by four.

"We were very fortunate that we didn't let that get away," Miami coach Pat Riley said. "We have a lot at stake and they made a real good run at us in the fourth quarter. Before we could get gathered they turned the momentum around. We had to make some strong plays at the end to win this game. Dallas played very, very hard and their effort was better than ours in the fourth quarter."

Early in the third quarter, Dallas trailed 49-45 following a three-pointer by Finley. But Miami reeled off 13 of the next 15 points to get the lead back to double digits. Voshon Lenard had five points during that stretch and Hardaway's 17-footer with 5:45 extended Miami's advantage to 62-47.
