GAME RECAP

Robert Horry scored five of his season-high 23 points during a key fourth-quarter run and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers won their sixth straight game and remained perfect against the Vancouver Grizzlies with a 119-110 victory.

The Lakers are in the midst of their longest winning streak since opening the season with 11 consecutive victories and improved to 11-0 all-time against Vancouver. Los Angeles, which recorded 26 and 13-point victories over the Grizzlies earlier this season, still trail first-place Seattle by three games.

Horry, who also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, sparked a 12-2 run to start the fourth quarter with a dunk 12 seconds into the period and capped the spurt with a three-point play off a transition layup, giving the Lakers a 102-90 lead with 8:46 left.

"We always try to do that," Horry said of the Lakers explosion to start the fourth quarter. "It's funny. They looked like they got tired in the second hlaf. We got some open opportunities and got easy baskets."

Los Angeles shot 57 percent (45-of-79) from the field and 7-of-15 from three-point range. Horry led the charge, hitting 9-of-11 shots and 5-of-5 free throws and gave Los Angeles the lead for good on a seven-foot hook with 2:45 to play in the third.

"Horry played very well," said Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal. "He got some big rebounds, hit a great shot and he does a lot of little things that doesn't get seen. He's helped us out a lot this year."

"They played well," said O'Neal of the Grizzlies. "We didn't come out aggressive and they were able to hit shots. They played well and stayed in the game."

Shaquille O'Neal added 24 points -- two in the second half -- and 11 rebounds and Nick Van Exel, who was activated from the injured list earlier in the day, chipped in five points during the decisive burst for Los Angeles. O'Neal is averaging 30.5 points over his last four games.

Rick Fox added 20 points and Eddie Jones chipped in 16 for the Lakers, who scored 31 points in transition.

"When we try to slow the ball down and play the half-court game we're not at our best," said Jones. "Everybody isn't used properly until we get into the transition game and get everyone going. It always opens things up and allows shots to fall. That's Lakers basketball."

Bryant Reeves continued his fine play, scoring a team-high 24 points, while Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 23 for Vancouver, which fell to 1-11 in its last 12 games and 2-18 in the last 20. Reeves is averaging 25.7 points over the last three games.

"We gave up a lot of easy layups in transition where we weren't getting back," said Reeves. "That was the biggest difference. They would get a rebound and make courth-length passes and shoot layups with no one there. That's what killed us."

Sam Mack scored 20 points and Blue Edwards added 15 off the bench for the Grizzlies, who trailed by as many as 16 points three times in the fourth quarter before finishing the game on a 10-2 run.

"That's the Lake show," said Mack of Los Angeles' running style. "They run when they get the chance, getting out and pushing those long rebounds. It really helps."

Vancouver did set a franchise mark for points in a second quarter with 39. In the period, the teams combined to tie a Grizzlies record with 76 points and set a franchise mark with 21 combined assists. The teams' 64.1 percent shooting in the first half also represented a Vancouver record.

"For about three quarters we played decent basketball," said Vancouver coach Brian Hill. "But the one stretch overlapping the third and fourth quarter really opened the game up. Every time we got a turnover a missed shot, it resulted in a breakaway layup or an easy basket and a lot of three-point plays going the other way."

During the record-setting quarter, O'Neal scored 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting as the Lakers hit 15-of-21 field goals, while his center counterpart, Reeves, scored 12 points for the Grizzlies, who sank 16-of-23 attempts.

"We shot the ball extremely well tonight and we're happy to get a good win," Horry added.

Van Exel scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter and added six assists in 18 minutes in his first game back after recovering from knee surgery that sidelined him 13 games. To make room for the All-Star, Shea Seals was placed on the injured list with back spasms.

"I think the Grizzlies played a very good game," said Lakers coach Del Harris, who was asked if his team was looking forward to Monday's showdown with Seattle. "Our guys went out there and gave a good effort and played a good all around game."
