GAME RECAP

Shaquille O'Neal scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers notched their third straight 50-win season and continued their dominance of the fading Sacramento Kings with a 114-91 rout.

Rick Fox added 14 points and Robert Horry had all 12 of his in an extended run spanning the middle two quarters for the Lakers, who have won five straight and 11 of their last 12 games. Los Angeles has defeated Sacramento 10 straight times.

Corliss Williamson scored 19 points for the Kings, who played their third straight game without injured star guard Mitch Richmond and have dropped nine consecutive games. Sacramento's playoff hopes are all but extinct as the Kings have fallen 10 1/2 games out of the final Western Conference spot with 11 games to play.

"Losing never gets easier," Williamson said. "I think it gets harder after each game we lose. You look up and we've lost seven in row, eight in a row and we're wondering when it's going to stop. I think that the guys are getting a little frustrated but we're still out there working hard trying to accomplish something, trying to make sure that we just do not give up on the season."

The Kings were within 53-51 after Terry Dehere sank a pair of free throws with 3:10 left in the second quarter. But Derek Fisher buried a three-pointer to ignite a 10-2 surge to end the half as the Lakers took a 63-53 lead on a pair of free throws by Horry.

Los Angeles began to pull away to open the second half behind Horry, who scored 10 of the Lakers' first 12 points. After a dunk by O'Neal, Horry had consecutive dunks around a Sacramento basket to push Los Angeles' lead to 71-57 with 8:05 remaining in the third quarter. He followed with a layup and a four-footer to extend the lead to 18 points before O'Neal converted a three-point play to cap a 25-8 run and give the Lakers a 78-59 bulge.

"It was a little luck and me being in the right place at the right time," said Horry of his flurry. "All of them were double-teams on Shaq so they left me on the inside. They were undersized. Last time we kind of played around with them, they got an early start. This time we were more serious, came out and played our game."

Sacramento scored seven straight points to get within 78-66 on Williamson's layup with 4:36 remaining in the period. But Los Angeles ended any hope of a comeback by scoring 15 of the next 20 points, building a 93-71 cushion on Nick Van Exel's three-pointer with 10:21 remaining in the game. The Kings got no closer than 14 points thereafter and the lead got as large as the final margin.

Van Exel also had 12 points and Kobe Bryant added 11 for the Lakers, who shot 54.5 percent (42-of-77) from the field and mauled the Kings on the boards, 53-32. Los Angeles has outrebounded its last 10 opponents.

"We had another good second half defensively and a dominating board game," Los Angeles coach Del Harris said. "These are the things that have become pretty good habits for us and things that we have to do."

Tariq Abdul-Wahad and Michael Stewart finished with 11 points apiece for the Kings, who shot 45 percent (37-of-82).
