Game Recap

Isaiah Rider scored 15 of his 26 points in the second quarter as the Portland Trail Blazers completed a season series sweep of the Dallas Mavericks with a 99-91 victory.

Rasheed Wallace, Walt Williams and Brian Grant scored 17 points apiece for the Trail Blazers, who swept all four games from the Mavericks this season.

Portland, which won for the sixth time in eight games overall, remained three games in front of the seventh-place Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference.

"We have been playing better, beating the teams we're supposed to beat," Portland coach Mike Dunleavy said. "We've also played the elite teams very well. We had a real good win last night in San Antonio."

Shawn Bradley recorded his his sixth-career triple-double for the Mavericks with 22 points, 22 rebounds and a career-high 13 blocked shots. Michael Finley scored 24 points to lead the Mavericks (19-58), who dropped their fourth straight game and matched last season's loss total.

"I feel good. It was fun tonight," Bradley said. "This season for me has been really up down as far as getting in my rhythm and feeling comfortable on the floor. Tonight, was one of those times where it felt really good."

"To surround a great performance like that it's too bad that we had to have a loss," said Dallas coach Don Nelson. "The guy (Bradley) mystifies me that he can put on a performance like that. Tonight, he was as strong as anybody in the league this year."

Trailing 26-22 after one quarter, the Blazers went ahead for good in the second period with a 16-6 burst. Rider ignited the run with a three-pointer and Damon Stoudamire capped the surge with a free throw with 4:56 left for a 38-32 advantage. Portland boosted its lead to 51-41 at intermisson.

The Blazers maintained a double-digit lead until the final minutes.

Portland wasted little time in putting the game out of reach in the final quarter. Kelvin Cato, who had season highs with 16 points and 12 rebounds, sank a pair of free throws to trigger a 10-2 spurt. Williams capped the spurt with consecutive three-pointers that gave the Blazers an 85-62 advantage with 8:44 to play.

"It feels good to be on a winning streak," Cato said. "We are just going to try to play well and get in a nice rhythm going into the playoffs."

The Blazers opened up their biggest lead of the game at 96-72 on Wallace's dunk with 5:17 left. Dallas scored 19 of the game's final 22 points to make the final score respectable.

Rider connected on 11-of-17 shots from the floor for the Blazers, who shot 44 percent (40-of-90) and held a 50-44 rebounding edge. Dallas shot 41 percent (32-of-79) and had club-record 16 blocked shots thanks to Bradley.

Portland center Arvydas Sabonis missed his fourth straight game with a an injured right hip.
