Game Recap

Jim Jackson scored 27 points and Jason Caffey added 19 as the Golden State Warriors snapped a five-game losing streak with a 92-80 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in a matchup of two of the NBA's worst teams.

Caffey had four points and Clarence Weatherspoon scored four of his 11 as the Warriors opened the second half with a 10-2 surge, taking a 53-43 lead and staying on top the rest of the way.

"The only thing we can do is finish off strong," Jackson said. "It is just a shame we didn't get more victories to finish off the season. What is significant now is to maintain a good position and receive a good draft pick."

Rodney Rogers had 17 points and James Robinson netted 16 for the Clippers, who mounted a late run but were unable to make a shot over the final three minutes in suffering their ninth straight loss.

Golden State (17-63) and Los Angeles (16-64) are 11th and 12th in the Western Conference. Only Denver is worse in the West at 10-70.

Erick Dampier collected 10 points and nine rebounds and Weatherspoon added eight boards for Golden State, which shot 43 percent (32-of-75) and held a 47-40 edge on the glass.

"I thought we did a good job of recognizing who needed the ball," Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "Our big guys had good looks inside and that opened up our game."

Isaac Austin returned from a calf injury and scored 13 points and Maurice Taylor contributed 13 and nine rebounds off the bench for the Clippers, who shot 38 percent (31-of-82).

"It is a blessing just to be here because it is the NBA," said Taylor, who entered the contest averaging 11.5 points and 4.1 rebounds as a rookie off the bench. "I want to win and would much rather be on the winning side, so this is hard.

"Everyone starts at the bottom and we just have to work from here," he continued. "We would like to get some more people in here and we have to do that through winning."

The surge in the Warriors' shooting and rebounding in the third quarter was the difference. Golden State sank 54 percent (12-of-22) of its shots in the period and pulled down 16 of the 22 rebounds in the period.

Leading 43-41 following the break, the Warriors struck first on a layup by Caffey. Rogers answered with two free throws before Dampier nailed a seven-footer and Weatherspoon hit consecutive buckets. Caffey followed with a short runner to open a 10-point cushion with 8:39 to go.

The Clippers cut a nine-point deficit to 61-58 on Lamond Murray's 11-footer but Adonal Foyle had a tip-in, Tony Delk drained a 17-footer and Jackson connected on a short jumper to give Golden State a 67-58 edge after three quarters.

After falling behind by as many as 17 points in the final quarter, a free throw by Darrick Martin with 72 seconds remaining got the Clippers within 84-78.

But Muggsy Bogues and Delk each made two free throws as the Warriors pulled away for just their seventh road win in 41 games this season.
