Game Recap

Terrell Brandon had 22 points and eight assists and keyed the decisive second-quarter run as the Milwaukee Bucks posted their fifth win in the last six road games with a 117-109 victory over the Boston Celtics.

The Bucks improved to 15-25 away from home, reaching their most road wins in a season since going 15-26 in the 1990-91 campaign. Milwaukee (36-44), which moved one game ahead of Boston (35-45), previously clinched its best overall record since that same season, when it finished 48-34.

"Coach (Chris Ford) said we need to win this game and have some pride," Brandon said. "Even though we aren't in the playoffs, we're still professional. ... We owe it to ourselves to play hard. We owe it to our franchise to give them something positive on the way out the door so our fans remember us."

Boston was within 47-44 late in the second period when Brandon buried a 19-footer to spark a 10-2 spurt. He later highlighted the burst with a three-pointer before Armon Gilliam sank two free throws to cap it for a 57-46 halftime cushion.

Antoine Walker had 24 points and eight rebounds for the Celtics, who have lost four of their last five games and split the four-game season series with the Bucks. Boston still needs one more win to post its best record since going 48-34 in the 1992-93 season.

"We are a young team that was close to the playoffs this year, but now we have something to look forward to next year in making the playoffs," said Walker.

Michael Curry added 20 points, coming within one of his career high, as six Bucks scored in double figures. Ray Allen had 19 and eight assists, Jerald Honeycutt contributed 17 points and a career-high nine rebounds while Gilliam finished with 16 and seven.

Milwaukee, which suffered a 104-82 loss to Charlotte on Tuesday, continues to play without injured starters Glenn Robinson and Tyrone Hill.

"We turned things around tonight, they played hard and continue to be professional," Ford said. "We have a good squad, particularly when we're healthy, we have a very good squad. ... We have a good nucleus and the guys get along very well."

Walker buried a 21-footer to tie game at 37-37 with 6:35 left in the second quarter. But Curry and Elliot Perry, who chipped in 11 points, answered with back-to-back layups as the Bucks grabbed the lead for good.

Ervin Johnson had eight points and 11 rebounds for Milwaukee, which shot 52 percent (39-of-75) from the field and held a 45-38 rebounding edge. The Bucks had lost their last two trips to the FleetCenter.

Tyus Edney scored a season-high 17 points off the bench and Greg Minor added 16 for Boston, which shot 46 percent (41-of-89) and made just 19-of-31 foul shots.

"We've only got two games left and hopefully we'll play a little bit better defense," Celtics coach Rick Pitino said. "What I am trying to do is determine our future right now. So it's almost good that I see all of this because I know what changes I have to make, where we have to improve. It's obvious that our defense is not strong enough."

A three-pointer by Dana Barros, who had 14 points and nine assists, cut the Celtics' deficit to 109-104 with 1:21 to play. Curry came back with two free throws, Honeycutt had a basket and Allen drained a pair from the line to build a 115-104 lead with 49 seconds to go.

The Bucks sealed the win by hitting their final 20 free throws, including six by Allen and four apiece from Brandon and Gilliam. Despite an atrocious 2-of-10 effort from Johnson, Milwaukee hit 35-of-47 foul shots.

"We played hard, with a lot of energy," Curry said. "The free throws were the difference in the game."

Walker made just 2-of-7 foul shots but was 10-of-16 from the floor. Fellow starting forward Walter McCarty scored 14 points but shot 5-of-13 from the field, and guard Ron Mercer was 5-of-15 for 11 points.
