Game Recap

Chris Mullin scored seven points in a key third-quarter run as the Indiana Pacers continued their strong push into the playoffs, recording a 107-98 victory over the Toronto Raptors to run their winning streak to seven games.

Dale Davis scored 20 points and Jalen Rose added 19 for Indiana, which improved to 12-0 all-time against the Raptors and matched a season high with its seven-game winning streak, set January 23rd-February 3rd.

"The second half, I thought we played better defense," Pacers coach Larry Bird said. "The second half, I thought we got up into them and kept control of the game. We're definitely on a roll and we're better than we have been for a while. I'm proud as hell of these guys."

The Pacers, who already wrapped up homecourt advantage through the first two rounds of the playoffs, also received 17 points off the bench from center Rik Smits. Smits, who scored 11 of his points in the second half, is getting back into game shape after missing almost a month due to foot problems.

"Rik's active, he's been around the ball," added Bird. "But he still has work to do. The more he's out there, the better he gets."

"Rik is doing great, and the more he plays, the more he will get back to playing the way he was before the feet problems," said Davis.

Doug Christie scored 24 points and Marcus Camby added 20 for Toronto, which has lost 16 of its last 17 games. The Raptors have dropped their last eight road games and finished with a 7-34 road record, the worst mark in the Eastern Conference.

"We really wish we could be in the playoffs, but there was so much turmoil this year it was unrealistic," understated Camby.

After a jumper by John Wallace pulled the Raptors within 65-61, Mullin drained a three-pointer to trigger a 13-5 burst. He capped the run with a jumper at the 3:53 mark, giving Indiana a 78-66 lead. Toronto came no closer than nine points in the fourth quarter.

Rose scored 10 straight Indiana points in a 12-2 second-quarter run that provided a 44-39 lead on a dunk by Dale Davis. After two free throws by Tracy McGrady drew the Raptors within 44-43, Travis Best had five points in a 15-6 surge which gave the Pacers a 59-49 lead with 1:07 left. Best capped the run with a three-pointer.

Davis finished two points shy of his season high and Antonio Davis contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Pacers, who shot 49 percent (42-of-85) from the field. Indiana's bench accounted for 51 points as Rose made 7-of-11 shots from the field and Smits hit 5-of-12.

"It has been a long season and we came back and played the way we wanted to," said Pacers guard Mark Jackson, who had nine assists. "We accomplished this with the same players from last year, with the addition of Chris Mullin. It took a lot of hard work, but we were able to accomplish most of what we set to do."

Wallace finished with 16 points for the Raptors, who shot 46 percent (33-of-72) and outscored Indiana 30-19 at the foul line.
