Game Recap

Darrick Martin scored seven of his 17 points during a key fourth-quarter spurt as the Los Angeles Clippers ended a 10-game losing streak and another miserable season with an 83-77 victory over the Sacramento Kings at Anaheim, California.

James Robinson added 20 points and Isaac Austin had 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Clippers, who won for the only time in April and just the second time in their final 17 games. Los Angeles went 17-65 for its fifth straight losing season and lost 50 games or more for the 14th time in the last 17 campaigns.

"It is nice to get a win to spend the summer on," Los Angeles coach Bill Fitch said. "It wasn't great execution of fundamentals, but we hung in there and won the game."

Corliss Williamson had 27 points and nine rebounds for the Kings, who did not trail until the fourth quarter but ended up with their sixth straight loss and 18th in their last 19 games. Sacramento finishes the season Sunday at home against Vancouver.

Martin's driving layup with 7:44 to play gave Los Angeles a 72-71 lead and ignite a 10-4 run. Lawrence Funderburke answered with a dunk for the Kings' last lead, but Martin buried a three-pointer with 5:57 remaining and followed with a running jumper 36 seconds later for a 77-73 advantage.

Williamson made a layup to make it a two-point game, but Robinson drilled a three-pointer to cap the spurt and provide the Clippers with their largest lead, 80-75, with 3:24 to go. Martin added three free throws in the final 22 seconds to make sure Sacramento could get no closer than three points.

Williamson scored 12 points in the first quarter and added eight more in the second. The Kings led by as much as 14 points midway through the second quarter before the Clippers closed within 50-44 at halftime.

Los Angeles got within one point early in the third, but Funderburke had six points in the period as Sacramento brought a 67-63 advantage into the final quarter. Rodney Rogers opened the period with a layup and Robinson converted a three-point play to give the Clippers their first lead at 68-67 with 9:54 to go.

"Fourteen-point lead, we didn't take care of the ball," Sacramento coach Eddie Jordan said. "We have young guys our there that have to understand that they have to get in their sets and stay focused. I liked the defense, I hated the offense. We were trying to do more than what we should have."

Rogers finished with 13 points and Charles Smith chipped in 10 in 11 minutes for the Clippers, who shot just 36 percent (30-of-83) from the field but held an opponent under 80 points for only the fourth time this season.

Funderburke had 14 points and Anthony Johnson and Tariq Abdul-Wahad had 10 apiece for the Kings, who shot 49 percent (35-of-75), held a 49-41 rebounding edge but committed 25 turnovers.
