Game Story

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Glenn Robinson and Ray Allen helped make George Karl's Milwaukee coaching debut a successful one as the Bucks rallied for a 113-107 overtime victory over the Charlotte Hornets.

Robinson sent the game to overtime with an 18-foot jumper at the regulation buzzer and Allen did the rest, scoring Milwaukee's first seven points in the extra session and setting up Terrell Brandon for a back-breaking three-point play.

Allen opened overtime with a pair of free throws, then answered B.J. Armstrong's 3-pointer with one of his own, tying the game at 104-104 with 2:12 left. Allen came up with a steal and finished off a fast break with a dunk, giving the Bucks the lead for good with 1:55 to play.

Karl, whose team was one of five not to open the season Friday night, collected his 504th career coaching victory. Fired last spring after six-plus years with the Seattle SuperSonics, he is trying to get the Bucks to the postseason for the first time since 1991.

Robinson and Allen scored 25 points apiece for Milwaukee, which trailed by 11 points 14 seconds into the second half. But Allen scored seven consecutive points during an 11-0 run, capped by Brandon's layup that tied the game at 60-60 with 6:54 to go in the third quarter.

Bobby Phills led the injury-plagued Hornets with 18 points. Charlotte managed a franchise-low 66 in a 12-point home loss to Philadelphia on Friday.
