Game StorySAN ANTONIO (Ticker) -- Sean Elliott scored six of his 22 points in a decisive second-quarter burst and the San Antonio Spurs smothered the Minnesota Timberwolves, 96-82, for their second straight win.
Elliott led a 14-point surge early in the second period, during which the Spurs held the Timberwolves scoreless for more than four minutes. In the first half, San Antonio allowed Minnesota just 26 percent shooting (12-of-46) and 28 points.
Tim Duncan had 22 points and 14 rebounds and David Robinson added 19 and 13 for the Spurs, who led by as many as 25 points in the third quarter.
Kevin Garnett had 19 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks for Minnesota, which won at Denver on Friday and faces San Antonio again in its home opener Tuesday. The Timberwolves came up short in trying to match last season's 2-0 start, the best in franchise history.
