Game Story

ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Penny Hardaway had 28 points, eight rebounds and five assists and backcourt partner Nick Anderson added 26 points as the Orlando Magic cruised to a 107-90 victory over the Boston Celtics.

Hardaway and Anderson shot a combined 49 percent (18-for-37) from the field and made 14-of-18 free throws as Orlando defeated Boston for the 10th time in 13 meetings.

"What I'm trying to do is be more aggressive and get to the free throw line," Hardaway said. "That's what has been on my mind since it started. Get to the free throw line and get guys in foul trouble and extra points for ourselves."

Darrell Armstrong scored 17 points in 28 minutes off the bench and Isaac Austin grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked six shots for the Magic, who shot 50 percent (6-for-12) from 3-point range and never trailed.

Antoine Walker had 20 points and eight rebounds and Popeye Jones added 13 points for the Celtics, who opened a six-game road trip after splitting two home games. Kenny Anderson and rookie Paul Pierce each scored 12 points.

"I thought they did a good job of passing the basketball and finding Nick Anderson," said Boston coach Rick Pitino. "I thought that Popeye showed us if we pass the basketball and play together as a team, offensively we can do wonderful things. We did some good things tonight; we just stopped passing the basketball in the fourth quarter and hurt our offense."

The Magic shot 56 percent (22-for-39) in the first half and had a 62-49 advantage at the break. Nick Anderson scored 21 points in the first two quarters, making 8-of-10 shots.

"We had a terrific first half, primarily because when they pressed we got out of it and ran," said Orlando coach Chuck Daly. "If we can get out and run like that and get easy baskets, it makes our job a little easier."

Walker scored nine points as Boston opened the third period with a 15-4 run, closing to 71-70 when Jones made a layup with 6:45 left. The Celtics had a chance to take the lead but Kenny Anderson and DeClercq each missed jumpers.

Each team turned the ball over on successive possessions before Armstrong sank a 3-pointer from the right sideline to give Orlando a 74-70 advantage with 5:26 to go. Austin made a pair of free throws and Hardaway converted a three-point play 43 seconds later.

Boston missed seven straight shots from the field after the layup by Jones and did not score until Walker made two free throws with 3:14 left. Hardaway made 3-of-4 free throws to end the period and give Orlando an 86-74 lead.

Boston got no closer than 10 points in the fourth quarter.
