Game Story

TORONTO (Ticker) -- Ray Allen scored 17 points and the Milwaukee Bucks used a decisive run midway through the fourth quarter to spoil the Toronto Raptors' last game in Maple Leaf Gardens, 91-77.

With the Bucks holding a 72-70 lead with 6:29 left, Allen sank a pair of free throws to spark an 11-0 burst. Glenn Robinson made three free throws, Terrell Brandon had consecutive baskets and Vinny Del Negro sank a jumper to cap the burst and give the Bucks an 83-70 advantage with 3:48 remaining.

Robinson added 16 points for the Bucks, who are 2-0 to start a season for the first time since winning their first three games in 1996-97.

"It is important to win on the road. We thought we would have a good chance with the Raptors," Robinson said. "We knew what we had to do. They played us tough but we knew that once the fourth quarter came around we had to go all out."

Rookie Vince Carter had 22 points and Kevin Willis added 16 and 11 rebounds for Toronto, which was playing its last game at the historic arena. The Raptors host the Washington Wizards at SkyDome in nine days before moving into the Air Canada Centre on the 21st.

Toronto won once in six all-time games at Maple Leaf Gardens.

The Maple Leaf Gardens was the site of the first game in NBA history when the New York Knicks played the Toronto Huskies on November 1, 1946. The Knicks won that game, 68-66 before a crowd of 7,090. Tonight's game drew a crowd of 14,577.

Allen, who connected on 5-of-10 shots, scored 13 of his points in the opening half as the Bucks built a 47-40 advantage.

Milwaukee received superior play from its guards. Brandon had 14 points for the Bucks, who held Toronto's combination of Doug Christie and Alvin Williams scoreless on 0-of-12 shooting. Christie missed all 10 of his shots.

The Bucks still held a 57-54 lead with 3:29 left in the third quarter after a pair of free throws from Tyrone Hill. But the Raptors scored seven of the final nine points in the period, capped by Carter's thunderous dunk to draw into a 61-61 tie heading into the final quarter.

Carter, who scored just 20 points in his first two games on 39 percent shooting, connected on 9-of-13 shots from the floor in his home debut.

"We just ran out of gas. I was in Ray Allen's face and in Robinson's face and they still made their shots," Carter said. "My play is overshadowed by the loss."

The Bucks got a strong game off the bench from offseason acquistions -- Del Curry and Del Negro. Curry hit 6-of-12 shots, including making 3-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc while Del Negro finished with eight points and seven assists.

"We are a fourth quarter team. If the game is up and down in the fourth we are a shoo-in to win," Allen said. "When I come or when Glenn comes out we have a new group with Vinnie Del Negro and Del Curry. That is something we have not had for a while."

Milwaukee shot 47 percent (37-of-78) and held the Raptors to just 35 percent (27-of-77), while also forcing 22 turnovers that led to 27 points.
