Game Story

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Flu-ridden Gary Trent came off the bench to collect 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Dallas Mavericks cruised to a 104-90 victory over the slumping Sacramento Kings.

Signed as a free agent just prior to the season, Trent has scored 71 points and grabbed 40 rebounds in his last four games. The fourth-year forward is averaging 23 points and 13.6 rebounds in three games against the Kings this season and has seven double-doubles in his last 20 games overall.

Teammates Steve Nash and Michael Finley added 22 points apiece as the Mavericks won for just the third time in nine games. The last time the Mavericks had three players score at least 20 points was February 28, 1998 against the Washington Wizards. Dallas also improved to 4-0 this season when cracking the 100-point barrier.

Tariq Abdul-Wahad scored 16 points and Vlade Divac added 15 for Sacramento, which lost for the sixth time in eight games. The Kings were outrebounded, 50-35, and made just 4-of-14 3-pointers.

Trailing 56-47 at halftime, Sacramento got no closer than seven points in the second half and trailed by as many as 15.

While Sacramento was struggling from the outside, the Mavericks were flourishing, in particular Nash and Hubert Davis. Nash established a career high with five 3-pointers while Davis was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.

In his last three games, Davis has averaged 14 points while making 9-of-15 3-pointers. A.C. Green and Shawn Bradley contributed to the domination on the boards with 10 and nine rebounds, respectively.

Sacramento was within 21-20 with 3:02 left in the first quarter when Dallas closed the period with an 8-0 burst. Finley sparked it with two free throws and Trent capped it with a 17-footer from the left corner.

The run continued at the start of the second quarter as Davis and Dirk Nowitzki hit single free throws and Erick Strickland added a pair from the line. Vernon Maxwell snapped a scoreless drough of 5 1/2 minutes with two free throws with 9:32 remaining.

Sacramento attempted to get back into the contest in the final two minutes of the first half. Dallas saw its lead shaved to 52-47 with 96 seconds left, but Trent converted a layup and Davis buried a jumper to push the lead back to nine.
