Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Jon Barry drained a critical 3-pointer and made six of eight free throws in the final 61 seconds as the Sacramento Kings rallied for their fourth straight win, 105-97 over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Rookie Jason Williams scored a season-high 27 points and Barry netted a season-best 20, helping the Kings overcome a 19-point deficit and snap a five-game skid against Minnesota.

Joe Smith hit a jumper with 2:14 to play, capping a 14-5 run and putting Minnesota within 96-95. Kevin Garnett netted six points during that burst.

However, Barry took over thereafter. He drilled a 3-pointer from the left corner with 2:02 left to extend Sacramento's lead to 99-95. Barry made six foul shots while the Timberwolves managed only a jumper from Smith.

"It was nice to get some quality minutes," Barry said. "I had some stored energy. I hadn't really played in a game in a couple of weeks. I got some steals and I also scored a lot of points."

Chris Webber scored 18 points and grabbed 19 rebounds for his league-leading 35th double-double of the season.

Sacramento remains tied with the Seattle SuperSonics for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Minnesota leads both squads by one-half game for the seventh seed.

Garnett tied a season high with 29 points for the Timberwolves, who have dropped seven straight road games and six of seven overall. Smith scored 15 points while Terrell Brandon added 13 and 12 assists.

"I have no answer," Garnett said. "I'm just trying to find a way to win. We have to come out of a funk. These are urgency games. I wouldn't say our backs are against the wall."

"I thought when (Vernon) Maxwell and Barry came in, they did a great job," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "The big thing is that we came in as the lowest turnover team in the league and we committed 23 tonight."

Maxwell scored 12 points and was part of a Sacramento bench that scored 40 points. Minnesota's reserves had just 17 points.

Minnesota raced to a 25-6 lead 6 1/2 minutes into the game as Garnett scored nine points.

Sacramento netted 10 straight points in the second quarter, pulling within 44-40 with 4:02 left in the first half. Lawrence Funderburke scored four of his six points in that spurt.

Williams used the third quarter as his personal showcase, scoring 19 points and hitting five 3-pointers to tie a club record for one period. He netted nine points in a 13-2 run, helping Sacramento take an 80-70 lead with 1:36 left.

"I have a couple of games under my belt now and if you ask my teammates, I think they would say I'm not a rookie anymore," Williams said. "If I miss a few shots, I'm still going to take my open shots.
