Game StoryMILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The chances of the Toronto Raptors qualifying for the playoffs for the first time are getting slimmer and slimmer as each day passes.
Tim Thomas matched a season high with 21 points and the Milwaukee Bucks got a key contribution from their bench as they dealt another blow to the Raptors' fading postseason hopes with a 115-102 victory.
The Bucks never trailed and seized control with a 21-7 run that bridged the first two quarters that opened a 47-28 lead with 6 1/2 minutes to play before halftime. Milwaukee received 17 points from its bench during the pivotal run.
Ray Allen and Glenn Robinson contributed 18 points apiece for the Bucks, who remained tied with Detroit for sixth place in the Eastern Conference, one-half game behind Philadelphia.
Dee Brown set a team record with nine 3-pointers and scored 29 points for Toronto, which has dropped three straight and remained two games behind New York for the final playoff berth in the East. John Wallace added 21 points for the Raptors, who play three of their remaining four games on the road.
Brown went 10-of-20 from the floor, including 9-of-18 from beyond the arc. He surpassed his own team mark for 3-pointers, established on March 30 at Cleveland when he went 8-of-14.
Allen finished 7-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. He scored 11 points in the first quarter and Robinson added 10 in the period as the Bucks raced to a 32-21 advantage. Milwaukee shot an impressive 65 percent (13-of-20) over the first 12 minutes.
"We got the job done tonight against a good athletic team," Robinson said. "It's nice when everyone puts up the numbers. Teams just can't focus on Ray or myself."
A layup by reserve Michael Curry capped a 16-7 run to start the second quarter and pushed the Bucks' lead to 47-28 with 6 1/2 minutes left before intermission. Milwaukee led 61-44 at halftime.
Vinny Del Negro scored 15 points to lead the Bucks reserves. Curry added 14 and Ervin Johnson had 11. The trio combined to make 15-of-20 shots as Milwaukee shot an impressive 61 percent (43-of-71) for the game.
"Passing the ball was a big key for us," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "You win a lot of games shooting 60 percent. They (Toronto) showed some tiredness in their legs."
Thomas' three-point play capped an 8-0 run and gave the Bucks their biggest lead of the contest at 80-59 with 4:23 left in the third quarter.
The Raptors closed to 99-92 with 4 1/2 minutes to play after Wallace drained a short jumper. But Haywoode Workman answered with a 3-pointer that restored a double-digit lead for Milwaukee.
Rookie Vince Carter added 20 points for the Raptors, who shot 40 percent (32-of-80).
Toronto coach Butch Carter partly blamed the officials for his team's poor shooting.
"They (Milwaukee) can't guard guys 1-on-1, they need a zone. They played more zone tonight than we've seen all year," he said. "That's George (Karl) playing to his team's strength. But you need to catch the officials on a night that they don't allow that."
