Game Story

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Glenn Robinson scored 22 points as the Milwaukee Bucks used a late rally and avoided their third straight loss with a 102-95 victory over the floundering Chicago Bulls.

Although they slipped to 1-10, the Bulls displayed some feistiness, overcoming a 14-point first-half deficit to take an 84-77 lead with 10:36 to play.

But the Bucks had plenty left in the tank and outscored Chicago, 13-3, over the final four minutes to keep the Bulls winless on the road this season.

"I am happy we got the `W' and that is the only thing," Milwaukee coach George Karl said. "I am very concerned and disappointed. Point blank, we were lucky to get the win."

Ray Allen collected 18 points and Vinny Del Negro added 17 off the bench for Milwaukee, which allowed the Bulls to score a season-high 35 points in the third quarter before holding them to 15 over the final 12 minutes.

"We gave them too much confidence," Allen said. "They made shots, we missed shots. We need to have the will to go out and play well. We can't just show up and win the game."

Top overall pick Elton Brand scored 16 points and Hersey Hawkins added 15 for the Bulls, who have lost five straight for the second time this season and slipped to 0-7 on the road.

"So close, so tough," Brand said. "Up (seven points) in the fourth, I was ready to mark this a `W.' It was very discouraging but we just keep improving and learning to play wihtout some key guys."

The Bucks improved to 5-1 at home.

Sam Cassell was limited to 10 points on 2-of-12 shooting in 32 minutes. But the Bucks point guard hit a pair of free throws to give Milwaukee a 100-93 lead with 24 seconds left, all but sealing the win.

Chris Anstey's layup with 4:32 remaining gave Chicago a 92-89 advantage. Robinson answered with a 16-footer and veteran sharpshooter Dale Ellis put the Bucks ahead to stay with a 26-footer from the left sideline that made it 94-92 with 3:23 left.

"I am trying to get used to the substitution pattern and play quality minutes and provide some scoring punch off the bench," Ellis said.

Allen followed with a seven-footer and Ervin Johnson sank two free throws to make it 98-92 with 53 seconds remaining.

Robinson went 9-of-17 as the Bucks shot 44 percent (34-of-77) from the field. Milwaukee scored 26 points off 21 turnovers.

"Disappointing loss," Chicago coach Tim Floyd said. "Overall, out defensive effort was good. Key turnovers in the fourth hurt us after offense helped us in the third."

The Bulls shot 49 percent (37-of-76) and battled to a 36-36 draw on the boards.
