Game Story

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- Mookie Blaylock made his return to Atlanta a memorable one.

Blaylock handed out a season-high 19 assists and had six steals as the Golden State Warriors held off a late fourth-quarter run to defeat the Atlanta Hawks, 107-99, and snap an 11-game losing streak.

The Warriors, who shot 48 percent (47-of-99) from the field and committed only 11 turnovers, had not won since beating Chicago 99-79 on November 16.

Blaylock, who spent seven seasons with Atlanta before being dealt to Golden State last June, hit a crucial 3-pointer with 1:26 remaining to give the Warriors a 105-98 lead. He scored nine points on 4-of-12 shooting.

"It was good to come back here because I played here for seven years," Blaylock said. " I had a great time here and then to get a win makes you feel a lot better. It was a big win for us."

The Hawks had used a 9-0 run keyed by three free throws and a 3-pointer by rookie Jason Terry to cut the deficit to 100-96 with two minutes left. In the deal for Blaylock, the teams swapped first-round picks and the Hawks used theirs on Terry.

"I think we came out a little too sluggish at home." said Terry, who collected 16 points and six assists off the bench. "A team like this, you've got to put them away early. Once they build confidence, they're hard to stop.

"They were hot from the outside. Mookie had a great game tonight. When you have those type of assists, it means guys were knocking down their shots. It wasn't a one-man effort; he had a supporting cast tonight."

After the teams traded baskets, Blaylock hit his jumper from the right sideline to put away the game.

"It was an interesting enough ballgame and a game that we needed to come out and win," Blaylock said. "Tonight we came out real hard and our intensity was up."

"To come back to a place he was liked, I think Mookie played so well," said Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo, whose job security is rumored to be in jeopardy. "He took care of the ball, disrupted a lot of their offensive schemes and distributed the ball."

Red-hot Isaiah Rider scored 34 points for the Hawks, who trailed 56-42 at halftime and had their five-game winning streak snapped.

"This game was more of what we didn't do; we came out a little flat," Rider said. "It was like our feet were stuck in the mud a litle bit."

Antawn Jamison and John Starks each scored nine points in the first quarter to give Golden State a 26-20 lead. Jamison had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Starks scored 17 points.

"We shot the ball well," Carlesimo said. "John got us going early. Chris Mills was huge off the bench. A lot of individuals played very, very well."

Veteran forward Terry Cummings scored a season-high 18 points for Golden State, which also snapped a four-game losing streak against Atlanta.

Atlanta (9-10), which shot 42 percent (35-of-82) and committed 19 turnovers, dipped under .500 after reaching the break-even point for the first time this season.
