Game Story

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Something had to give and, as usual, the road-weary Vancouver Grizzlies did.

Maurice Taylor scored a season-high 26 points as the Los Angeles Clippers snapped a season-high nine-game losing streak with an easy 102-90 win against Vancouver.

Entering the contest with identical 4-16 records, the Grizzlies proved to be the worse of the two clubs tonight, falling behind early and never seriously challenging thereafter. The loss was their 32nd in 33 road games.

Taylor hit 12-of-20 shots and grabbed eight boards for Los Angeles, which had not won since a 100-95 home win over the New York Knicks on November 23.

"Maurice is probably one of our best players," Los Angeles coach Chris Ford said. "And as the season has progressed, Maurice has become more aggressive with his scoring."

Shareef Abdur-Rahim had 24 points and 16 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who snapped a franchise-record 30-game road losing streak and an 11-game skid overall with a win at Dallas on Tuesday. But Vancouver has reverted to form with three straight losses, including two straight away from GM Place.

"We felt that we were going to come in and win the game," Abdur-Rahim said. "But I'm sure they felt the same way."

The Grizzlies are now one-half game behind idle Golden State (4-16) for the worst record in the West.

Trailing 5-4 after Michael Dickerson's 3-pointer less than two minutes into play, the Clippers responded with a 15-3 run over the next six minutes to take a 19-8 lead on Derek Anderson's 25-footer with 4:22 remaining.

Troy Hudson had 18 points and a season-high 11 of the Clippers' season-best 27 assists. Michael Olowokandi collected 16 points and 10 boards for Los Angeles, which had lost four of its previous five meetings with Vancouver.

"My confidence was up, I had lots of energy," Hudson said. "I was just going through practice trying to make my shots and it showed tonight. I was looking for Michael Olowokandi and Maurice Taylor because they were hot."

"We were aggressive, but we were not overly aggressive," Olowokandi added. "Hopefully, we can continue this trend and carry it throughout the season."

Anderson, who had 16 points, left the game late in the fourth quarter with an apparent leg injury after a wild scramble for a loose ball. X-rays of his left ankle came back negative, but Anderson was diagnosed with a second-degree lateral sprain and will likely miss the Clippers' next game.

Dickerson scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting and Othella Harrington added 15 for Vancouver, which shot 41 percent (31-of-75) and commited 15 turnovers.

Rookie Lamar Odom was limited to eight points in 25 minutes, but second-year forward Tyrone Nesby had 12 points for the Clippers, who shot 51 percent (42-of-83) and yielded just nine points off turnovers.

"We hit open shots and rotated good," Nesby said. "Maurice had a good game. We all played together and got the win."

After Dickerson's 3-pointer gave the Grizzlies their last lead of the night, Olowokandi made a layup before Taylor and Hudson made back-to-back jumpers to give the Clippers a 10-5 lead with 8:54 remaining in the opening period.

Harrington made a free throw, Anderson and Dickerson exchanged baskets, and Taylor sank an 11-footer before Anderson's shot from beyond the arc made it 19-8 with 4:22 left in the first quarter.

Vancouver's Brent Price cut the deficit to 84-78 early in the fourth quarter, but Taylor responded with a jumper and Odom added a layup to re-establish a 10-point bulge with 9:23 to play.
