Game Story

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- After defeating three of the better teams in the Western Conference, the Denver Nuggets lost to one of the worst.

Bryant Reeves' follow shot with 5.5 seconds remaining lifted the Vancouver Grizzlies to a 93-91 victory over the Nuggets, whose struggles on the road continued.

With the game tied, 91-91, the Grizzlies went to their best player, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, to deliver the win. He missed a driving layup over Antonio McDyess and Raef LaFrentz, but Reeves was not boxed out and tipped it home.

"If he (Abdur-Rahim) happens to miss, I just wanted to make sure I was there," Reeves said. "The main thing is we won the game and we've been able to put two back-to-back. It feels great right now."

Following a timeout, the Nuggets had a chance to tie but Nick Van Exel threw up an airball off a wild runner in the lane.

Coming off home wins over Sacramento, San Antonio and Portland, the Nuggets could not continue their success as they fell to 3-9 on the road. Denver is 10-3 at home.

Abdur-Rahim scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who have won consecutive games for only the second time this season. Mike Bibby also had a big game for Vancouver, narrowly missing his first career triple-double with 14 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds.

"I've just got to keep it up," Bibby said. "I'm not satisfied with one game. I want to improve every game."

LaFrentz scored a career-high 29 points and Van Exel had 14 and 10 assists for the Nuggets.

The Grizzlies held a five-point advantage entering the final 12 minutes and extended the lead to 80-72 with with 11 minutes to go following a 3-pointer by Dennis Scott.

However, Denver answered back, reeling off a 17-4 spurt, capped by a short jumper by Ron Mercer with 5:07 to play that provided an 89-84 lead. Mercer finished with 16 points on 8-of-16 shooting.

Abdur-Rahim converted a three-point play an Bibby made two free throws, tying it with 1:47 remaining. Antonio McDyess hit 1-of-2 from the line to put Denver ahead before Abdur-Rahim answered with a jumper.

LaFrentz hit the first of two free throws to tie it, 91-91, with 17 seconds left. He missed an opportunity to put the Nuggets ahead when McDyess was called for a lane violation on the second attempt.

Denver played the fourth quarter without coach Dan Issel after he picked up a pair of technical fouls with 1:44 to play in the third quarter.

"We had our chances. I thought Vancouver played harder than we did," Issel said. "Vancouver simply played better. It's difficult anytime you lose. I told the guys that I would take full responsibility. Two techinal free throws were the difference."

LaFrentz, whose previous career high was 24 points on two other occasions, scored 16 points in the opening half, helping the Nuggets open a 49-46 lead. Abdur-Rahim had 14 points for Vancouver.

Dickerson finished with 22 points for the Grizzlies, who shot 42.5 percent (37-of-87) and held a 46-39 rebounding advantage.

Denver shot 48 percent (37-of-77).
