Game Story

OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- Cedric Ceballos scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Dallas Mavericks handed the Golden State Warriors their 10th straight loss, 109-102.

The Warriors are one loss away from equaling their longest skid of the season from November 17-December 8. They are 0-7 since general manager Garry St. Jean took the coaching reins from P.J. Carlesimo on December 27.

"This was an extremely frustrating loss, probably the most frustrating loss since I've come aboard," St. Jean said. "We came out of the box not focused, not ready, and dug ourselves a deep hole. We did claw back from it, but there were so many mental mistakes that it made it very difficult to get over the hump."

Ceballos scored 10 points and Michael Finley had 11 during a 32-11 run that gave the Mavericks a 34-16 lead after one quarter. The Warriors committed eight turnovers and shot 33 percent in the period.

"Tonight we retaliated blow for blow," Ceballos said. "We just made baskets. We jumped out on them but they're an NBA team and we knew they were going to come back."

Golden State closed within 62-61 on a 3-pointer by Mookie Blaylock with 7:24 left in the third quarter. A layup by Antawn Jamison kept the margin at one, but Ceballos scored five of his nine third-quarter points as part a 15-10 burst that stretched the advantage to 81-75 entering the final period.

"Ceballos had the hot hand and we went to him when things weren't running smoothly," Mavericks coach Don Nelson said.

Hubert Davis hit a 3-pointer to give Dallas a 93-81 lead with 7:17 left. The Warriors got within 104-98 on a long 3-pointer by Blaylock in the final minute, but Finley hit four free throws and Dirk Nowitzki added one to seal the Mavericks' third victory over Golden State in as many meetings this season.

"It's not like were giant killers... we've only won 11 games, Nelson added. "This game might not have been important to a lot of people, but it is to me."

Golden State scored the first seven points of the second quarter to cut the deficit to 34-23 with 9:32 left. After Shawn Bradley's layup put the Mavericks ahead 43-29, Jamison scored six points to key an 18-10 run which brought the Warriors within 53-48 at halftime.

"Anytime you jump out to a big lead in the first quarter, it's almost the worst thing that can happen," Bradley said. "For the rest of the game, you can get lulled into a sense of what coach calls 'fools gold'. You know they're going to come back."

Finley finished with 21 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds and Nowitzki scored 17 points. Dallas shot 49 percent (38-of-78) from the field and was 28-of-33 at the line.

Jamison scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Donyell Marshall added a season-high 21 points and 16 boards for the Warriors, who shot 44 percent (38-of-86).

"The key is not putting yourself down by 20 points or 15 of what ever it was," Jamison said. "Our offensive execution just isnt there, especially at critical points in the game. There were opportunites we should have taken advantage of, but we didn't."
