Game Story

DALLAS (Ticker) -- All of a sudden, the Dallas Mavericks are one of the hottest teams in the NBA.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 24 points and Michael Finley had 20, 10 assists and seven rebounds as the Mavericks posted their sixth win in eight games, a 99-90 triumph over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Shawn Bradley, fresh off his altercation on Wednesday, continued his strong play of late with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Dallas, which has won three in a row for the first time this season.

"This is the time of the year that we are supposed to make a run and put some strings together," Mavericks coach Don Nelson said. "We've had the toughest schedule in the league and even then we've missed three or four opportunities that we've had. Now we have to try and and turn the corner."

"We just have to come out and let these teams know that they just don't have a chance here," Nowitzki said. "We got to get on a roll if we want to get back into the playoff picture. We have to win every game at home and on the road, too."

Derek Anderson made 11-of-22 shots from the field and all 11 free throws en route to a career-high 35 points. Rookie Lamar Odom added 21 points, 12 rebounds and six assists for the Clippers, who have dropped a season-high 10 straight games.

"We had our moments tonight," Clippers coach Chris Ford said. "We committed 21 turnovers tonight and it's tough to win on the road with that many turnovers. We had a great game from Derek Anderson. He was absolutely fantastic out there. Lamar Odom certainly had his moments."

The Clippers led 28-23 after a quarter as Anderson scored 12 points and Odom 10. The duo combined to make 6-of-11 shots but the rest of the Clippers made just 3-of-8.

Odom's jumper 78 seconds into the second quarter gave the Clippers a 32-27 lead but Finley had a layup nine seconds later to trigger a 16-2 burst that gave the Mavericks the lead for good.

Finley sank a 10-footer with 10:06 left to slice the deficit to 32-31 and Sean Rooks buried a 16-footer. Hubert Davis' 3-pointer pushed the lead to 36-32 and Finley added a dunk off a feed from Steve Nash.

Nowitzki continued the run with a corner jumper with 7:13 left before Michael Olowokandi sank a short hook for Los Angeles. Davis answered with a 3-pointer from the left wing that pushed the advantage to 43-34 with 6:42 to go.

The Clippers got within 45-39 with 4:39 left in the half and trailed 56-49 at the break. A basket by Maurice Taylor 93 seconds into the third quarter sliced the deficit to 60-56 but Dallas scored eight straight points to push the lead to 12.

Two free throws by Anderson with five seconds left in the third quarter got Los Angeles within eight and it whittled the lead to 88-84 with 5:26 remaining. But Olowokandi was whistled for a technical foul and the Mavericks ran off eight straight points, capped by Greg Buckner's short jumper with 2:21 left.

Los Angeles shot just 40 percent (31-of-77), including 3-of-13 from 3-point range. The Clippers made 25-of-27 free throws and held a 45-39 rebounding edge.
