Game Story

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- John Starks scored 20 points in his return from the injured list as the Golden State Warriors broke open the game in the third quarter an cruised to an easy 107-76 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Starks, who missed nine games with tendinitis in his right knee, made 7-of-13 shots and added six assists in 31 minutes for the Warriors, who have won four of their last six since dropping a league season-high 12 in a row.

"I felt good tonight,' Starks said. "I was about 80 percent. I'll never be 100 percent until the off-season.

"I've been playing the game for 11 or 12 years at this level," Starks added. "To be honest, its become an easier game with the no hand-check rules because now guys can't really get up and play you hard. So it didn't take any time to bounce back tonight. I knew I was going to have some good looks."

Golden State outscored Los Angeles 25-9 in the third quarter to turn a 48-42 lead into 73-51 advantage entering the final 12 minutes. Starks had 10 points and three assists in the period, while the Clippers hit only 4-of-22 attempts.

Los Angeles never got closer than 19 points the rest of the way in dropping their 11th game in 12 outings. Rookie Lamar Odom was held to a season-low two points on 1-of-6 shooting for the Clippers, who had defeated Golden State in two previous meetings this season.

"Everytime we played the Clippers, we had guys hurt", Warriors forward Antawn Jamison said. "It's taken some time for our defense to come together but we've been playing great offensively lately and that's something we didn't have the first couple of times we played these guys."

Jamison collected 24 points and 12 rebounds and Donyell Marshall added 19 and 13 for the Warriors, who shot an impressive 53 percent (48-of-90) from the floor and dominated points in the paint by a 62-28 margin.

"My role on this team is to rebound, score sometimes, and defend," Marshall said. "I've played every position but point guard, so if I can move to a different position and create matchup problems, it will help us win."

Tyrone Nesby scored 20 points off the bench and Maurice Taylor had 16 for Los Angeles, which shot a dismal 35 percent (28-of-81) and were outrebounded, 46-36.

"We didn't come out ready to play tonight," Nesby said. "We let their offense do whatever they wanted. We went back to our old routine -- one pass, shoot, miss. Then they go down and get a quick layup."

Clippers forward Brian Skinner, also playing his first game since being activated from the injured list, had no points or rebounds in seven minutes of action.

Los Angeles led 23-21 after one quarter. Jamison and Marshall combined for 12 points to give the Warriors a 48-42 lead at halftime.
