Game Story

SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Chris Webber had 22 points and 14 rebounds and Nick Anderson chipped in 20 points as the Sacramento Kings picked up their third victory in five games, a 96-84 triumph over the Denver Nuggets.

The Kings led 89-82 with 3:08 left but scored seven straight points to double the lead with 44 seconds left. Webber scored four points in that run and Lawrence Funderburke capped the spurt with a short jumper.

Vlade Divac scored 13 points and Predrag Stojakovic added 12 for the Kings (30-18), who head into the All-Star break one-half game ahead of the Utah Jazz for the fourth seed in the Western Conference. They were 27-23 in the lockout-shortened season.

"We talked about it (winning 30 games by the All-Star break) after we got back from the road trip," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "There are only six or seven teams with 30 wins right now and we are one of them. Now we'll be playing a lot of good teams, a lot of games here and we'll see how we measure up."

In his last contest before the All-Star game, Webber shot 7-of-18 from the floor and 8-of-10 from the line.

"I'm definitely looking forward to it," Webber said. "I'll have some family and friends (in Oakland) and hopefully it's a fun, but short weekend so we can get back to business on Monday."

Despite shooting just 39 percent (33-of-84) from the field, Sacramento made 85 percent (22-of-26) of its foul shots and improved to 2-1 against Denver this season.

Antonio McDyess scored 21 points and Keon Clark matched his season high with 19 for the Nuggets, who have dropped five straight overall and 10 in a row on the road. Nick Van Exel, who scored a season-high 38 points the last time these teams met, sat out tonight with a groin strain.

"We're not playing as well as we were early in the year," Nuggets coach Dan Issel said. "I think we need a break physically, hopefully we can get Nick well. I think we need a break mentally and we'll get through this."

"We stuck in there and played hard, no matter what," McDyess said. "We are in a slump and hopefully everyone gets their heads back together and get ready to play when we get back."

Webber has 12 points and 11 rebounds in the first half as the contest was tied, 45-45. McDyess had 11 points for the Nuggets, who were 14-36 last season.

Denver scored seven straight points to lead, 57-50, with 7:17 in the third quarter. Raef LaFrentz hit a 3-pointer and McDyess closed the spurt with a short jumper.

Sacramento came roaring back later in the period as Anderson scored seven points during a 14-2 spurt as it opened a 69-63 lead with 42 seconds left. He had 10 in the quarter as the Kings led, 70-65.

Anderson was questionable for tonight after injuring his left knee chasing a loose ball in Tuesday's contest against Chicago.
