Game Story

DALLAS (Ticker) -- In his second game with the Dallas Mavericks, Dennis Rodman collected his first points and first ejection. He is still looking for his first win.

Rodman was tossed with 7:13 to play of a 112-99 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, who got 29 points and 11 rebounds from All-Star Glenn Robinson.

Robinson scored 14 points in the decisive fourth quarter, when Rodman was ejected for arguing, tore off his No. 70 jersey and handed it to a boy under the basket before exiting.

The controversial forward was livid after the officials missed an obvious illegal defense by Bucks center Ervin Johnson, who was camped in the lane while Rodman, his defensive assignment, stood well behind the 3-point line.

As play went the other way, Rodman continued to berate the officials and received his first technical from Ken Mauer. In an effort to prove his point, Rodman retreated to the scene of the missed call and sat down in the lane to demonstrate Johnson's defensive position. He was immediately given his second technical by official David Jones, leading to an automatic ejection.

"They always have it out for me," said Rodman, referring to the officials. "The first person they look for is Dennis Rodman. He looked at me and threw me out. "I didn't say anything. I sat down and that was it."

"I don't know what Dennis was thinking, but from my standpoint he wasn't getting any calls," all-star guard Michael Finley said. He was getting held and as a result he got frustrated and took it out on the refs."

Rodman did not leave the court in a timely manner and will likely be fined and possibly suspended.

"That was the time for me to step up and get my game going," said Robinson, refering to Rodman's ejection.

The sharpshooting Robinson drained four 3-pointers during a crucial stretch midway through the final quarter and finished the game 6-of-10 from behind the arc. Milwaukee snapped a season-high three-game losing streak.

"Glenn wasn't really shooting the ball well until the fourth quarter," Bucks coach George Karl said. "In fact I remember trying to make a point to take him on the low block because he was taking too many jumpers that he wasn't making."

Robinson's first three-pointer of the period gave the Bucks a 94-87 lead with 6:03 to play and he drained another with 3:40 left to extend the lead to 101-91. After Cedric Ceballos hit a free throw, Robinson again hit from long distance and followed a layup by Ceballos with another bucket from downtown to give Milwaukee a 107-95 cushion with 2:23 to go.

Vinny Del Negro's 14-foot jumper from the right corner gave the Bucks an 86-77 lead with 9:53 remaining. But Ceballos, Dirk Nowitzki and Hubert Davis hit consecutive jumpers and Michael Finley followed a free throw by Johnson with a left sideline jumper to cut the deficit to 87-85 with 7:47 to play.

Sam Cassell had 28 points and 13 assists and backcourt partner Ray Allen added 27 points and nine rebounds for the Bucks, who shot 46 percent (42-of-92) from the floor and were deadly from long range, hitting 12-of-24 from behind the arc.

"They are a great offensive team, especially when those three guys start shooting the ball outside the arc," Ceballos said. "It's really hard to stop. We tried double-teaming and that's what opened up a lot of things for them. They just knocked them down. You have to give them credit. Two of those guys (Robinson and Allen) played in the All-Star, and Sam, he should have played too. With three all-stars, its difficult to compete.

"That's their team," Finley said. "I mean that team is based around that three-headed-monster, Ray, Sam and Glenn. When those guys all have big nights, I would bet you that their record is a damned good one."

Rodman had 16 rebounds and six points. Shawn Bradley scored a season-high 20 points and blocked four shots for Dallas, which had won seven of eight before Rodman joined the team.

"He's rebounding, but like I've always said, Dennis is not going to come in here and do it all by himself," Finley said. "It's still going to take a collective effort from everybody. Whether its rebounding, defending or just overall playing hard. He's a good player, but he needs help."

Finley had 19 points, Dirk Nowitzki had 18 and Ceballos also had 18 along with 10 boards for the Mavericks, who lost despite knocking down 48 percent (40-of-84) of their shots.
